Would you prefer the whole family die from starvation, or that they sell one of the kids and the family can live for another month to a year? It is easy to judge when you have never been in that kind of hardship.

Forcing people to do things doesn't solved the problem, it moves it elsewhere like we saw in the video. It makes people go underground. There needs to be the right incentive for companies to change their products and people to recycle or choose other options when buying a product. If it makes economic sense, the changes will happen on their own, with no need for gov't force or even to pay people off to do the right thing.

Bazooka Joe Probably because you don't get money or not as much money for giving up the kid for adoption. It could lead to human trafficking, but it could also just mean some form of indentured servitude, hopefully not full slavery. Although I'm sure some would argue that even that would still be better than starving to death.

Joe Dart It is a great example of why socialism never works, and your conclusion about gov't is way off base, because gov't does not stop socialism and the tragedy of the commons from happening. We see it all throughout history. Even the supposed good gov'ts in the west have everyone trying to grab a piece of the gov't pie with no regard for ever increasing debt.

Bob Ross The pickers can still use them like everyone else within the 20 limit, but the pickers will probably go to the same buyers they used before. You are assuming their income is lowered based on nothing, unless you are actually going to complain about less people littering and using the machine instead. I don't see the problem here. You want to force companies to change like a fascist?
