That is false. Depending on the situation, it can easily make all the difference in the world. Hiding in the same room is stupid for everyone except the small children who are unable to fight and don't know enough to run and escape.
These older kids could absolutely make a difference, it is cruel and barbaric to suggest they shouldn't prepare and be able to defend themselves and others.

This school and these kids are both a. brave, and b. the exception, not the rule.
The school superintendent was a veteran of the police force, so he should know what he is talking about.
