You are not going to change biological desires no matter how much you call it gross or what arbitrary laws you put in place. Why do you think "barely legal" porn and similar stuff is so popular? The same goes for women to a lesser extent, when looking for the healthiest man to mate with, they won't go for some old guy (judging by looks not wealth).

Maybe if they hide, they won't get shot." That is false. Depending on the situation, it can easily make all the difference in the world. Hiding in the same room is stupid for everyone except the small children who are unable to fight and don't know enough to run and escape. These older kids could absolutely make a difference, it is cruel and barbaric to suggest they shouldn't prepare and be able to defend themselves and others. "Those three Americans were both a. veterans, and b. the exception, not the rule." This school and these kids are both a. brave, and b. the exception, not the rule. The school superintendent was a veteran of the police force, so he should know what he is talking about.

I for one have no intention of filling my kids (if I ever have any) head with nonsense like santa clause, easter bunny, etc. I want them to be prepared for the real world, which is why I wouldn't have a problem with them being in a school like this (unless I can find a better schooling alternative).

You have not bothered to offer up any alternatives, nor do you realize that the only thing better than unarmed kids grouping up and taking down an armed man, would be armed kids taking down an armed man. But because this school actually has at least one armed teacher, they hopefully don't need to open that can of crazy, which is nutters like you going crazy over letting kids defend themselves with a weapon. "They know a drill isn't going to result in anyone being harmed" That is irrelevant. We don't stop doing drills (fire drills, etc) just because everyone knows it isn't real and a real life situation would be different. "This is just the typical, gun nut fantasy bullshit" Yeah, and fire drills are just the fantasy BS of firemen and building management, trying to get people out of the building quickly and save lives.

Unless they happen to love the job, it is most certainly an empty greeting. I would have to know more about the culture in Japan, but I'm inclined to think the same for jobs in Japan. Even then it could just be force of habit and culture, and not actual respect.
