Unfortunately, many Leopard 2s were wasted by completely incompetent Ukrainian leaders who still operated with the once teached useless Soviet military tactics. a) You don't drive an MBT into a minefield, it has to be cleared first. b) To protect the MBT from drones, Ukraine received around 50 Gepard tanks. None of these Gepards are deployed on the front lines, they are all just around cities as air defense. The Gepard was specially designed to secure the airspace for mobile ground troops, such as MBTs, IFV, etc. c) If the Gepards were used as originally intended to protect the Leopards from the danger from the air, there would be no drone problem.

@leehotspur9679 Nope, they have been all hit by mines or drones. After a tank has lost its tracks on a mine, it naturally becomes an easy target for artillery. Disabling a moving MBT with artillery is like winning the lottery jackpot.

Rifled barrel have also two weak points. The power of the propellant can not be extended to give the shell more punch to overcome modern amor. The rifle would wear out extremely quickly, if the barrel wasn't even destroyed. This leads to another disadvantage, the general wear of the barrel is much higher with rifled barrels and this is also a huge cost factor. Changing the barrel of a tank is no small feat. In the case of the UK, the matter is actually quite mundane, the ammunition factory was closed decades ago and the remaining stocks are slowly being used up. For the few remaining British MBTs, it is simply not worthwhile to build a new munitions factory. There is also no export market for this ammunition.
