The company operating the garbage truck is the BSR - Berliner Stadt Reinigung, wich translates to Berlin city cleaning (city owned) and the same company also cleans the streets and also picks up the leaves. There are more than 1 Million trees in Berlin and they have special vehicle to pick up the leaves in autumn. A team sweeps the streets and sidewalks with XXL brooms. The leaves are swept to the street and there a vehicle sucks them in with a large suction nozzle. Sometimes there are also small vehicles with brushes and a suction device that are operated by one person, it depends on the environment. BTW, the trees are not just decoration, they also help to keep the city cool in the summer, as Berlin can get very hot in the summer. The trees/leaves provide natural shade and the walkways and pavement below could not heat up by he sun.

  2. BTW, Germany has also garbage cans for paper and i remeber a heavy storm where every second paper bin was blown over. The paper blew through all the streets and decorated the city distric with the bins at the street. With shredded paper it looked like there had been a gigantic confetti parade.

  3. The truck is virtually hybrid, because it is propelled by oxygene wich is chemically transformed to electric energy via a fuel cell. The tanks on the side are most likely oxygene tanks and oxygene can be produced by electricity. If the elecrticity for the oxygene production is generated by wind turbines, the truck operates CO2 free.
