  1. The V12 engine (M120) in the previous W140 model had more horsepower, the V12 (M137) in the W220 was an provisional solution. Initially it was planned to only install a V8 in the W220, so the engine compartment was too small for the M120. The M120 engine was then shrunk (shorter stroke) to an M137, but with a loss of performance. The M137 engine was then replaced in the same model series by the more powerful M275 E55AL turbo engine variant with 500 hp wich was developed by AMG. The M275 E55AL is therefore a downsized M275 E60AL from the AMG S65.
