  1. Japan is safe compared to US. But not that safe compared to other asian countries like Singapore or China. Just look at the 2 train stabbings last year. One during halloween. The various serial killers in japan and their horrific crimes are shocking.

  4. China learned from its mistakes. China had train stabbings years ago, now all train stations has airport like x-ray machine. My friends in japan told me there was increased security shortly after the halloween stabbings. But those increased security has since then disappeared. Not unlike the subway shooting in NYC. Please note, i am not a japan hater. I am what you might call an otaku. My fellow otaku friends in tokyo provides me with info of the real japan. An expat like yourself will likely never see the real japan even if you speak the language fluently.
