Despite the communist party banning religion in the past, today Churches and religious texts are tolerated and the Bible is the number 1 selling book. 5 Years ago they banned Bible sales online but it's legal in retail stores, making it an exciting curiosity to own a "banned" text. China is also the number 1 producer of bibles so inevitably many end up shared and sold. Basically the politics is starting to think like fundamentalist Christian ideology without official endorsing Christianity.
