It’s sad that we all are doing this. I understand why, when you have every educational institution lying about him and corporate shills and legacy media lying about him, then it makes sense. It’s a sad moment in US history

@AD65 You knew he freed his slaves before the war, right?

@hectortas1 If you mean Hitler invaded Poland because it was partly German land pre-WWI then kind of. I’m guessing you have no actual idea as to why the US went to war with Mexico. I’m sure you think it’s because of land stealing but you’d be completely wrong. This is what happens when we replace actual history with propaganda. We get Hector commenting ignorantly in a thread because he thinks he’s being virtuous. Maybe you should do some research on the US/Mexico relationship throughout history.

I feel sorry for the ignorant fools in this thread who are hating on a historical figure because of some ideas they held 200 years ago. Thank god for those white men who bravely fought for western values and the sanctity of the individual. While some of you are here stating your opinion without fear of reprisal, they actually risked their lives for freedom and liberty. So you could express those opinions, however misguided they might be…

The cause was an over bearing federal government overriding states rights. Take slavery out of the equation and history would have a better opinion

@Timber774 Back then it wasn’t unusual.

@AR-ix8fq Did you proof read your comment? Give your head a shake if you truly believe Lee waged war on the US just so “rich” people could own slaves. The contention for most was about the growing power of the federal government. Compare the size of the fed in 1810 to 1860. And then compare 1860 to 1960 and maybe the Southerners were on to something. People lose their minds when the topic of the civil war is brought up because they expect everyone to support the union because “slavery is bad.” Yes, we can all agree on that but we can also understand that their is nuance to all things, even this topic. Lee hated the fact that he had to fight his fellow countrymen but felt duty bound to his state. The South was always outnumbered and on the verge of total loss all of the time. It’s amazing what he did as a general. He was a man of honor. Just like a lot of folks back then who fought for the confederacy, they believed they were holding to the founding principles of this country. I’ve heard people call Lee a coward, a racist, a white supremacist, etc, but none of them actually know anything about the man. All they know is that he was white (which apparently is bad enough today) and southern. Read his biographies or any of his own work. Learn about this man and maybe you’ll have a different perspective on who he was.

It’s arguable that McClellan was a great general. He was able to get a rag tag group of men whipped into a formidable fighting force. They were well trained and in better overall shape to fight. That’s not the arguable part. The argument can be made that Washington (Lincoln and company) were interfering enough to cause McClellan to kept being put in bad spots. There is also the problem of bad intelligence McClellan was receiving when Lee was getting much better info.

@stikupartist3698 Oh, I see what you are. Go race hustle elsewhere.

@stikupartist3698 Calling people racist slavers and saying that’s why white people love them? What part of this is historical? This may play well in your own racist echo chambers but in the market place of ideas it’s utter horse shit. White Europeans were the first to enslave based on color? You obviously have zero knowledge of ACTUAL world history. Whatever you’ve learned in you gender/race studies courses isn’t real history. All of this is RACE hustling. Try to spend more time reading actual historians and not race provocateurs
