@nghtwtchmn129 I didn’t want to start a history war but yeah. Some states were on the fence for a long time. I know that we make the south out to be horrible because of the slavery issue but they had concerns of the growing federal government. That was a big moment in history when the US gov became very large and dominant versus the states

Angelspawn Yes and no about the slavery part. The Union wasn’t losing the war so badly either. It’s not that easy. There were battles lost and such but the biggest concern was moral and the draft. The US wasn’t just fighting a war with the south at the time either. McClellan probably would have ended the war sooner if allowed to wage it without Washington interference but again I don’t want to get into a history war in here. But I do agree with slavery not being the reason for the war.

@honolulublues5548 This is what I wanted to avoid. This rehashing of history. The main issue was the federal gov superseding the state gov. It wasn’t just about slavery. Slavery was the issue brought up as the catalyst in congressional hearings. Even the south talked about freeing the slaves during the war to bolster world support and to help fight the federal gov. The federal gov overreach was the crux and slavery was one of the issues
