I have read so many comments from people asking the big 3 to make a simple, solid and reliable truck. And Toyota has been doing just that
41
Does anyone else miss the old S-10/S-15 moniker?
14
I like the simplicity of the GM interior. When Ram upgraded their interiors it was like 1994 all over again.
13
guy proulx Dude, we get it. You’re a Toyota fanboy. Good for you. Not everyone has had the same experience as you. Some of us still like our domestic brands too.
7
I like the looks of these too. I guess everyone has forgotten that the Blazer name has been on a smaller SUV since 94. It’s been getting groceries and picking kids up from soccer practice for a long long time. And no one complained. Ford brings back the Bronco and suddenly everyone else gets nostalgic. If Chevy called this the K5 then I’d completely understand the heartache. It looks great and hopefully enough folks buy it.
6
guy proulx I didn’t say you did. Why are you so fucking defensive about your brand of choice. Ford usually ranks the highest of the big 3. For awhile there LINCOLN has been up at the top too. The 80’s was really the launching point for Japanese dominance. It took awhile for the domestic brands to get turned in the right direction. But even with those ‘lower’ ratings it doesn’t mean that the big 3 are just making lemons. I can remember when the Ford sync came out and all Ford vehicles were rated as unreliable or not recommended because of that. CR sometimes rates these small things as important as say engine/trans. Buy Toyota and be happy. Some of us prefer domestics. Deal with it

Surprised to hear that about Chevy/GMC. I thought the new design was doing okay.
5
My only problem with this is that I’m a Ford fanboy and my 5.4 3V is recommended to have 5W-20 by Ford. I know if I hadn’t switched to 5W-30 I would have seen the dreaded VVT ticking and eventual failure. I guess all I’m trying to say is that a little research goes a long way. Ford recommends 5W-30 everywhere else. Just make sure that you’re following the manufacturers recommendations but do it in a smart way..
5
Meno Passini You should have changed the oil once in awhile on that 5.4. Mines running fine. 16 years without an issue
4
BH Paradox Ford had some quality issues in the 70’s so they pushed back hard in the 80’s. Their slogan was something like “Quality is job #1.” I’ve had most Brands but I always go back to Ford. The 6.0 had some teething problems at first but it was a different design. Ford had them mostly worked out in the later production trucks. There are a lotta folks that have put a ton of miles on their 6.0’s without the ‘bulletproof’ stuff. The 6.4 also isn’t that bad but it’s definitely not the best. Ford was so disappointed in that engine that they cut ties with international and built their own in-house diesel. That should say something about Ford. Either way, drive want you want but don’t be dissuaded by the Ford haters because Ford still builds the best domestic vehicles.

Like step in height? Ride quality?

Via_INTERcat Except he’s not a boomer
4
Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk I don’t either but it would be nice. That way I can fit the whole family in there
3
Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk Just in the comments. Not you specifically but I have noticed some Toyota bias and then some Asian leanings.
3
I still go to CR as part of my research when I’m getting ready to buy a new vehicle
3
Clifford Gallagher Toyota fanboys...
3
Leeann Bowser Not really. Maintenance is the key. Also, 5W20 is not the best even though it’s recommended from the factory. Other countries had 5W30 as the recommendation and they don’t have the ticking issue that the states saw. We also have a ton of them in our fleet and they all were fine. The only issues we ever had were some electrical issues like power windows around the 200K mark
3
And this is why I come here first instead of TFL. Great info and hopefully this interview will help GM sell some trucks. I’m sure that 95-99% of buyers will be happy with this engine. I know there will be a small group of folks that abuse their trucks outside of recommendations so there’s that. And 150K miles is a lotta miles. I can remember when 100K was the mile marker for cars. This isn’t a deal breaker and shouldn’t be one for most people either.

Warren You had me at High boy. I get what you’re saying to BH but the reality of it is that Ford does build a better vehicle, or did. The 80’s started Ford on a push for quality. For domestics, Ford was on top when it came to build quality. From interiors to frames. Recently all three have caught up to the Foreign market but if you look up reliability ratings the Fords would be the top domestic. Having said that, they all have their problems even Toyota
3
I still prefer the looks of the old econoline but it appears that the Transit is very capable and convenient. The 3.5 is awesome but are they putting the 7.3 in these?
3
I want a column shifter and a bench seat in the front.
2
They need to put the 3.0 in more trim levels and vehicles
2
Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk Good to know. I’m hearing you can only get it in the highest trims. Weird. Maybe they need to offer it in the new explorer, transit, etc..
2
Not even close. Ford has made some fantastic engines. From the flathead to the FE’s and then the 385 series to the all new 7.3 Godzilla. These are all great engines that Ford actually designed not to mention their small blocks. Even the 4.6 has been a solid reliable engine. The Ford V10 is another solid choice that regularly gets high mileage.
2
MustangLover 1970 For sure. I kind of glossed over the SBF and didn’t mention any 6’s. Any of Fords in-line 6’s but the 300 is the most popular.
2
MustangLover 1970 Hell yeah. Gotta love those old inline 6’s. We had an old F250 as a work truck with a 300 I6 and it was a workhorse.
2
MustangLover 1970 Don’t sell the eco boost engines short. I’ve never owned one and may never own one but some people have had really good luck and success with them. That 2.7 is a really good engine and the new 3.0 is said to be really good too
2
MustangLover 1970 The 5.4 is a really good engine if maintained properly. The 4.6 is a great engine. Auto or manual?
2
All the dummies in the comments saying the Bronco sport is the new Bronco. You were never in the market for this or for a Ford so stop it.
2
Your channel is turning into a fanboy fest
2
If this doesn’t come with the mileage maker I-6 and the T-18 then count me out!
2
Ford didn’t take a bailout though. They took a loan and it was to help with R&D for hybrid and electric vehicles.
2
Alexander Spenser I wasn’t saying it was good or bad. I’d hate to see any of them fail
2
Good to see Chevy make a comeback and the Ranger slowly take that number one spot again. We have an “old” 2011 Ranger in our fleet and I still enjoy driving it...
2
This was interesting. Has this happened on Tacos or Rangers?
2
Dan S Yeah, I guess his 80 years of experience means nothing...
2
Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk Lol. Me too as I get a little older
2
First, Scotty Kilmer is a whack job. Second, JD powers polls thousands of customers/consumers for their data but won’t post it unless the manufacturer buys it.
2
Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk Ford has said that they don’t use the ecoboost in their HD trucks because of longevity issues. I’m sure the 3.5 will be fine for 95% of applications but I wouldn’t mind the 7.3 for overall durability
2
RobsPower Channel Look up the Toyota accelerator problem. All manufacturers try to ‘screw’ their customers.
2
DEXTER MORGAN Oh man! That brought back some memories. I had to look up those old adverts again to hear that jingle
2
Steve Silvas Are you stuck in 1982 when that was their slogan?
1
Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk Interesting. I guess I’m a little behind the curve but I am a Ford fan. I was a bigger fan of the econoline series. Hopefully the new Bronco is a big seller and they fix the explorer’s issues or Ford may be in big trouble
1
My ‘88 Bronco with a 351W got 11-12 on the hwy. My ‘95 Bronco with a 351W got 14-15 on the hwy. My ‘04 F-150 with the 5.4 3V gets 17-18 hwy. I’ve kept the 04 for a long time because now I rarely drive it, usually just to tow my camp trailer. I know this vid is not only about MPG but trucks have been improving every generation. The general public wants efficient vehicles and we don’t need gov to force these changes. Especially since it costs these manufacturers a ton of $$$ to develop these changes.
1
MustangLover 1970 Oh that sucks. I hate to hear that. The fanboy in my has a hard time admitting that maybe they’re not great. I’ve had a 5.4 3V for years and it’s been just fine even though it’s one of the most trashed on engines.
1
MustangLover 1970 That will be awesome. Good luck
1
guy proulx Sure. I didn’t say Toyota/Lexus were not reliable. Bottom feeders? Not really either. If you cannot see how far the domestics have come since the 80’s then you’re not really looking. Because I say I like brand B over your preferred brand A that doesn’t mean brand A is bad/wrong.
1
guy proulx Do you know what “too” means? Or 2? Or top? You look it up, you need the practice

Adam Harriger What issues? Looks like that new 10 speed is problematic too. It may be time for Ford to fire a bunch of idiots at the top and get back to building quality vehicles.
