  1. Why am I not surprised when the guy admitted he doesn't speak other languages. Theres such a lot of anti intellectualism going on. "Why would you want to learn another language" kind of mentality is strong here in the states. People get offended if you want to learn another language, especially if isn't not a "white language". I get asked fairly often why I'm learning japanese? Usually in an interested way but somethines like "if it's not for you job why woukd younwant to?" Kind of thing. It's frustrating.

  3. I started learning Japanese a few months ago and youtube has been a big help. Honestly without it I wouldn't have even tried. In America if English is your first language very few speak a second. Not only do they not but a large portion are against the concept of speaking another language. Like "why would you want to learn that?" Like learning is a negative. Unless you're going to make money from it what's the point? What you're doing is normalizing learning languages and I appreciate it.

  4. That's interesting that in Japan the catholic church uses Japanese and not Latin. But in America and Spanish speaking countries at least they use Latin not the common tongue.
