This is just stupid. Khamzat would have gone for a takedown against Whittaker instead of thinking that he was Joe Louis.

@benjaminpolska6585 That's not true at all. Romero is basically a striker with an Olympic wrestling background while having ZERO submissions. Jacare lacks the wrestling abilities. Ikram doesn't do enough wrestling and ground control. The middleweight division has lacked elite grapplers for the last 6+ years. Nobody at the top does any submissions anymore, especially in top 5.

Such a shame that Khamzat had to pull out. At least he would have wrestled and made it longer and more exciting. Whittaker showing his early middleweight run in this fight by wanting to destroy instead of the point fighting he has done lately.

@HarpreetSingh-kj8ro Whittaker was just at another level. But Ikram didn't have the intentions at all for going for any takedowns. His last two fights ended with ko's. Khamzat always goes for the takedowns.

@benjaminpolska6585 I fully understand that Whittaker has a great takedown defense but Romero lacks jiu jitsu and his wrestling offense is just to exploit his striking abilities. Jacare's jiu jitsu is more based for competition than for MMA. Khamzat's wrestling and grappling for MMA is much better than both Romero and Jacare. Even Plessis being a judo black belt took Whittaker down with ease because he actually uses it well for MMA much more than both Romero and Jacare.
