Round 2 was the best heavyweight round of this year so far :-) Gane deserves a title shot next. The Francis fight was a close one, which I thought he won. Anyway, the UFC should make Gane vs Curtis or Stipe for the interim belt or the main belt if Francis leaves, which I think he would do but you never know...

@88kammojo Jon isn't even ranked anymore and hasn't fought in over 2 years... He has been retired longer than Khabib and DC who got inducted into the hall of fame this year...

@88kammojo There's always politics involved and Jon clearly gets a title shot if he ever returns. But the same argument can be made against Jon who most people think lost 3 rounds against Reyes even though he won a decision. Meanwhile, Gane won round 1 and 2 against Francis with a close round 5 that could easily have made it a draw or a split decision for either fighter if the judges even knew what they really were watching. Stipe already has around 10 title fights and new contenders should get a chance next but I wouldn't mind seeing him against Curtis or Gane next for an interim belt. At least Gane had a close fight against Francis while Francis vs Stipe 2 was mostly one sided... Besides, Stipe after the 3 wars against DC and 2 fights against Francis has become less of himself, so that's the real reason Jon wants to fight him. I actually think Gane, Aspinal and Curtis would give Jon a tougher fight than what Stipe would give at this stage of his career...

@88kammojo Funny you mentioned Jon. It's obvious that the main reason for him putting on so much weight is for getting the grappling advantage at heavyweight, but he used to be more offensive in his wrestling when he was in his 20's during 2011-2018 and has been more wrestling defensive later on the past few years, also in his striking approach... Anyway, I think if he moved up already in 2020, he would have gotten a bigger chance of winning since the longer he waits, the better the new era of heavyweights are getting... Being inactive isn't good at all in MMA unless the style is mostly wrestling, which would benefit someone like Khabib alone since he has 100 minutes of ground control time already in 13 UFC fights...

MMA Expert Explain to me how Francis should have won a decision. I'll give you my point of view. Gane landed more strikes in round 1, 2, 4 and 5. Francis didn't even land a single punch on Gane's face during the standup. Francis got 3-4 takedowns and only had ground control without any setups for submissions and ZERO ground and pound damage. Gane went for 3 submissions and got a takedown in round 5. The highest judging criteria is effective strikes, damage, submission attempts and someone trying to finish the fight. Ground control without submission attempts and damage is similar to clinch control without any damage and no takedowns... Gane tried to finish the fight 3 times along with some head kicks, Francis ZERO times... Besides, the judges don't give points for ground control alone, especially when there's no activity, but they were stupid enough to do it this time...
