  2. I think the polls failed to account for observer effect that they created; there were so many push-polls that people got shy of the 'real' polls. Similarly, Trump supporters kept a low profile because they would be called names and democrats would take their lunch money if they came out of the closet. The polls (some of them) were well done, but the atmosphere surrounding the election was so dense with bullshit that it affected how people answered. Many polls were also bullshit, push polls, polls that didn't ask anyone under 35, polls that excluded 3rd candidates, and polls (very common) that asked counter-factual questions like "If the election were held today..." If you want to know how people will vote on Nov 4, ask them that.
