P{roperty rights and rule of law were not exactly invented in Europe, but Europe developed a very effective combination of them -- the free and informed market of Adam Smith. Didn't Athens have rule of law? And property rights are as old as the hills.

yeah that was distracting. i would have said "them"

Vox is a pox on journalism. their video on JFK was 2nd grade logic with graduate level lies and manipulation

source?

@markaxworthy2508 cool will do

@markaxworthy2508 So tbc i agree, it's not all downside. There's always pros and cons. Wiki source (47) says the population growth in India in late colonial period (interwar) was not from better social policies, but from disease management. Says there is not "significant evidence of material advances" among the Indian pop at the time. Perhaps India benefited from science but not colonial economics, at this time...?

Europe added a lot of good things to the world. Conquering wasn't one of them.

banning videos is also unAmerican but yeah this anti-white racism is awful

yup, products of their own time. and also only a few Europeans out of all the millions were actually making the decisions about foreign policy

Actually even Neanderthals were well dressed

ok the neanderthals were not doing algebra, but they had fur and sewing

nobody alive had anything to do with the 19th century there's no owning up to do there is a lot of fixing and repairing...

Agree. The complex analysis is far more intersting than any simplified view. Buckminster Fuller -- one of the 20th centuries great geniuses -- has a very alternative view on the past 500 years. His "Great Pirate" theory is very different from standard history.

sometimes doing well means not having to go invade
1
chimps and bonobos do not have slavery, therefore it is not parsimonious to say that the first humans did
1
to present a realistic view of history, various opposing views have to be entertained
1
their morality is obviously not always perfect, but people are taught to behave and cooperate from the time they are like 1 year old. a baby is taught not to hit his parents. to get him to hit someone else's parents, a military system may employ high stress and depravation, as well as indoctrination.

the idea there is "the" correct one is wrong
1
yup Vox is prop, blatant bald-faced prop but slick
