  1. taxes get passed on right back to the consumer though.  I reckon UBI could increase rents somewhat, but not that much.  If it benefits the whole economy, rich, poor and middle class will all benefit.  Ultimately it doesn't create more money (it's paid for by taxes, so it's essentially a re distribution), but it could make the economy more efficient by taking care of the smaller gears and wheels.   Adam Smith himself talked about the "inferior class" (economically) being the vast bulk of the nation's wealth.

The investment banks and mortgage originators stole about 600t from the world in 2000-2007.  That could pay each American 2 million dollars.  Instead of course, it's going to cost taxpayers of the world that much as we pay for the theft over the next fifty years or so via Quantitative Easing etc.
