Why China so good? Because they just started. When the UK started trains, they were the best. Then the US got into it, and they were the best. Now China because they are building everything new. In 30 years Africa will be the best at railways.

@austinfu2102 we can read what we want, but yes the mainstream press is very bad. It doesn't issues that would harm it's corporate owners. But we do have a ton of alternative media.

@austinfu2102 I'm not trying to say which country is better. I think the people are great, everywhere I've been. (I haven't been to China but have met many Chinese when I lived in Hawaii. My ornithology training started with a scientist from Shanghai, he was one of the best dudes ever. I was born in India to American parents and live in the wonderful southwest USA). I don't like big governments in general, or corporations so big they can boss around entire countries. So naturally I'll be critical of both Chinese and US policies, because they (and India too) act as bullies. I'm happy to hear that you have alternative media! I think people have more in common than our governments want us to believe, honestly. This train video and your comments make me really really really want to go study birds in China. Think of the beautiful mountains I could get to now on the train!

@kushastea3961 Yes, and it's not just the mainstream narrative that is to be questioned, it is the nature of narrative itself. Stories are useful but are representations of reality, never identical with it.

@burningmatch09 still, 29 is a lot more than 12. I can imagine 12 as a promotional deal, but not a regular fare.

@lupa3041 Nether the US nor China are great role models. China is way too authoritarian for my taste, and the US is way to interventionist. I love the US and it's a wonderful place to live. But we have laws in the US that jail people for owning flowers (so does China). We have corporate press, China has state press. We have freedom of speech, this is real. China and US are very different but neither is trusted by other countries. The people are awesome but governments... they aren't perfect. Respect for individuals and for other nations is important; the big, powerful nations can do much better at home and abroad.
