Virulent technically means how bad the disease is. . For example, a cold can be very infectious, but also very mild (low virulence).

@angelatester2471 Yes, Australia is waiting for some months.
3
Thank you for the report
3
The UK group had a 90% effective rate. .
3
@Lost Space Not if it's in the duct. I think restaurants and hospitals will be doing this kind of thing... airplanes perhaps...
3
5.6 days

I do not think that Iver is 100%, even though it seems very very good.
2
The AZ averaged 70% effective.
2
I hope they prescribe a long vacation at a fabulous SPA!!!!!!!! Whatever it is. . Seriously good luck and get well. Weller. Wellest!
2
The time span would be the mean time for me to infect someone else, counting from the day I was infected. Guessing, but this is probably about a week.
2
Yes and no. They just do not know if the dosage actually matters yet. It's fine to give the spread of possible values. .
2
I agree. For example, President Trump is setting a good example by letting an essential worker have his vaccine, since he already had the virus.
2
@robertwhite3503 both cheap! But it is wonderful that Oxford/AZ went a different direction. Differen vacc for differen Jacks...
2
herd immunity is from all sources, vaccination, survival, exposure to related viruses, etc.
2
@kidsteach938 I'll be here through Tuesday, don't forget to tip the wait staff!
2
Oh I believe, in Yesterday! -The Beatles
2
Interesting! You were a "uniter not a divider" haha. . Glad it's improving. Keep up the exercise. Do you do math puzzles?
2
That is often true. The mortality seems to be far less per case in the third wave now, although the confirmed case numbers are not really usable for such estimates
2
There seem to be rare re-infections at all timelines, but no general loss of immunity so far after 10 to 12 months of the pandemic. . So probably not for a year or more.
2
No way.

@daverok1113 Werewolves are a grain of truth in an ocean of myth and mist.

David Ward This is a GREAT place for a marketplace of ideas, because YOU folks are smart and really kind, and have experience around the world. John has an amazing viewership. . Remember, to teach, one must be willing to learn. I was a teacher of every grade K-College, and I noticed this. When I was learning and teaching, they were too. When I was just teaching, it was not as effective. . Knowledge is a two way street. In Hawai'i we say "sharing mana'o"
1
When R gets below 1, prevalence of the virus shrinks. That's pure math. . Say that R0 is 3, then you need over 2/3 of the population to be immune for any reason, and this would bring R below 1. .
1
Approximately 14, all of them curiously named Steve or Angie. . Scientists are consulting the New York Times Crossword Division in search of an explanation.
1
yes!
1
Feed shop.
1
They are doing more trials on dosing. Since the original dosing difference was accidental and not distributed randomly, they do not know if dosing matters or not.
1
@christopherrobinson7541 Yes! This is valuable information, and I think it is fairly well known scientifically, because it is basically related to the virus growth curve in the bode. . I went to the dentist and then I quarantined from my dad from days 3 to 8, counting from the afternoon of the possible exposure. . It was actually hard for him to get along without me. I was glad to have some concept of the timeline so I could avoid 80% or 90% of infectiousness and then get back to helping him! His poor back went out. Now it's better. These things always have tradeoffs.
1
But thankfully this is unrelated to Levi's button fly 501 genes.
1
surely they will.
1
At least we still have CPU capacity. Two roads diverged on a chip, and I took the one determined by rnd(timer), and it has made all the difference engine.
1
Yay!
1
Could be b.s. They scientists originally said, "Maybe 40 to 70"
1
@robs1714 Probably there are dozens or hundreds of thousands of mutations, and this one only stood out when it increased in proportion. Then they looked at the areas where it was common, and they had higher R, so they sounded the alarm. . All fine but then the news takes it and declares WWZ. . Poor scientists. Seeing your work misquoted on such important stuff!
1
100 days? I don't think anyone is predicting vaccinations will be done in ~ 30 months.
1
Meaning it hasn't occurrred much yet, so survivor immunity lasts at least a year or so.
1
It means you played the Clippers.
1
"The proportion of mouse genes with a single identifiable orthologue in the human genome seems to be approximately 80%." https://www.nature.com/articles/nature01262 . There are different ways of measuring it, but 1% is very low.
1
I guess because if she got it he would have to quarantine? . Which would be wonderful, but still. . The Committee should have included "Leaders" in their first group, because as it stands, all the politicians are jumping line.
1
1/3rd of the US has already had it and is mostly immune. The vaccines are fabulously effective.
1
@rijamor Neither. Some symptoms are common to other diseases. . Also I wonder if the 90% figure is accurate, or if it is 90% all tests, not just people that request a test. Arent' many of the tests routine tests at the work place?
1
@rijamor We must go back in Time to Test ALL OF Liverpool, so the Beatles don't get sick during a hard day's night!!!!! . I think I forgot the point. Oh. Panic syndrome, you say? I can believe that. .
1
@robklein583 Cool! A good customer experience generally means good management, and up and on. So thanks for the report. First star to the right and straight on til morning!
1
Why not: Faster Immune response = fewer virions in the body = fewer infections = less severe infections = fewer virions in the environment. . Prove me wrong. (In other words, I think this is a logical hypothesis)
1
@MrkBO8 Yup. I have been commenting in protest when the news makes the same mistake. .
1
Expect the unexpected? Check. . How about, vaccine for covid prevents the common cold
1
David Ward We could vaccinate in a big wave, like hands across the America, but this time it would be bare arms across the world
1
Both. I'm guessing. It would be almost illogical to do one but never the other.
1
Mortality rate is about 0.26%. 1% is a bit high, but may occur in some places.
1
@jonathanbowen3640 goodness, forties at the most! Twenty seven I'd guess. Depends on the shirt though
1
@alanvanallen7762 Does that mean it can't reproduce?
1
@alanvanallen7762 Thanks! I will. In any case I'm not in the first couple groups to get it. But it is all very interesting.
1
@alanvanallen7762 Very interesting. It's probably good for future strains that there are many kinds...
1
Five out of five chiles from New Mexico!~~!
1
@janetairlines1351 The goats and papayas was a publicity stunt, not an actual test.
1
@cliffdeane9711 Ok... oh yeah 2/3! I like to estimate distances on my walks, and count steps to confirm or disprove the hypotenuse. .
1
@Lost Space oh man you making me miss Hawaii, I always go there in February to take care of biz and swim and kayak .
1
@SafireThompson Here is the possible selection pressure: Public health measures are isolating the worst cases so they do not spread. Meanwhile, asymptomatic cases are mostly going un-tested, so they can spread. . Thus, if the severity variation is partly due to genetic variation among the virus, the severe strains may be out-competed by mild strains.
1
@hsta9624 :)
1
Crushing dissent is not a great way to foster exchange of good quality information.
1
@gerardacronin334 Ok sure! But let's make them "No profanity, no direct threats of physical harm." . I would consider one other rule: Cite your Sources! But hey that's asking a lot lot lot lot. Before we require that here, we should require it of our news media. Anyway it's good to talk with you! Interesting points.
1
Yup, we've had almost half the country survive the virus. Unfortunately, 90% of them do not know they had it, so they can't really step out of line to let others have the vaccine without assuming the risk. But it still all adds towards the 70% immunity target.

Did you see the Harvard study showing the lab's empty parking lot in Sept. 2019?
