I disagree with the good doctor. There actually are tradeoffs. As a disease organism, it's very hard (not to say impossible) to be both deadly and spread rapidly.

Yes. There should be tradeoffs where the most deadly things simply cannot be the most infectious. This is not a hard rule, but I believe it is is generally true within a type of disease organism.
