@fondrees Yeah the Guardian isn't reliable. As an ornithologist I have perused their pages and found truly astounding scientific errors -- faster than light communication, plants growing without light or water... it's truly a wasteland for science reporting. . They didn't even do the right thing like our OP John did, linking to their source. A science article without any links to sources is like a tree without roots. . That said, I expect that particular claim is true, except that the nature of a "spike" may vary widely in our imaginations.

@fondrees "True by definition" lmco, sorry but that's funny. There are some things that are true by definition ("This sentence is true" would be one) but they are rare in real life. .

I believe there is some evidence that the Spanish Flu mutated in weeks to a less virulent form. (was it in the wikipedia article for that flu? If I find it...)

@baratoplata7050 wow that's all summed up in one pretty graph! nice visualization, the point of age transmission seems well supported, as logic would suggest. .
