@greydoe I think people are very smart, but the news is 95% hype and we have no national strategy, or even a national monitoring program. The net result for the population is a deluge of distraction and a starvation of scientific analysis. Anyone who is adding and subtracting successfully is doing better than the media, the president, or my governor.

get out and walk in the sun. walking is as important as vitamins

Breaking News: random sampling is the only way to estimate virus prevalence, but is not being conducted in the USA. . People have no reliable information on risk. Thus, behavior depends on individual assessment.
2
9-11 is an example of fear gone all out of proportion to the threat. Like Covid? . Also an example of extreme lack of data provided to the public about said threat. Like Covid! . Also an example of incredible incompetence before and after. Just like this virus. .

I am also so sick of "cases" that I refuse to watch this and most videos. . Random sample surveys are the only valid way to estimate prevalence. It's time the western world took a look at the concept of statistical inference.

Agree, serious, novel, and not the flu. . Is there a way to deal with it without destroying the bases for human society? .

JohanMDK Facts would be welcome. Such as, what is the prevalence in the US today? . We don't know because we aren't doing proper sampling. . Facts would be nice.

JohanMDK I watch every day, but I skip discussion of "confirmed case" numbers and focus on valid estimates. . As Django Reinhardt would say, "It don't mean a thing if it aint got that swing."

people are wearing masks . Democratic states are doing as poorly as Republican ones . The White House has no plan. Biden might and he would surely appoint some better people, one can hope. . Don't blame people when they have zero scientific information on prevalence of the risk in their area. Blame the leaders, as you do.
1
we don't know that. could be. . only random sampling can tell us

@edc1569 but they can tell everyone "stay inside" instead of thinking of an accurate slogan

Yes. Thus, there are only two ways to estimate prevalence: test everyone, or do a random sample. . Random sample studies are cheap and easy. We need to demand that our states and countries do them regularly.

It is mandatory in grocery stores in NM. . actually not gloves, but I do often wear them. remember glasses or safety glasses also

What info do the people have to bases their decisions? Haphazard guesses by officials and enhanced ignorance by the nightly news. . There is no monitoring program for the virus in the USA. . We are smarter than the sum of our parts.
1
Need a better term than "ventilating" which sounds like a machine with tubes in the lungs. . How about "aerating"
1
NEAR TERM EXTINCTION - HUMAN yes, marketing is what we need, tons and tons of it! . Also we need monitoring and a plan. But those are minor details.
1
That is an excellent question.
1
Did they do a random sample study? .
1
They could make a lot more $ with a functional economy. . On the other hand... the stupidity of our leaders (both parties) is beyond belief, so maybe they do want this and are dumbing down the response.
