@RRaymer A proportion of 0.011 /1 is also 1.1%

Camping seems ok. People being healthy outside... could be better than staying home.

"You're not getting slammed by rational individuals." Yes, well unfortunately there are simply too few ratios in the area!! To be rational, I think we need those. The most glaring vacuum is randomized population testing. Without it, we don't know X, where X is any number characterizing the population as a whole and not some subset such as "people in the hospital." I would volunteer for random testing, but that's illogical.

4:10 disagree. Random sample testing could tell us long before that.

What I want to know is PPI. What percent of people in my town are infected right now. In other words, what's the risk of going out and about? Someday humans will invent statistics and everything will be better :)

@maryfeist8080 Sure but the news needs to report facts, not completely made up lies! The British paper the Sun has a video on youtube titled "Protesters clash with police in Chicago." It's not Chicago, and the entire 1 hour 57 minute video shows zero "clashing." Zero. None. Not even one rude gesture! So there's "fanning" going on.

Salt water has helped me get rid of sore throats and skin infections. It is awesome!!

@syddog44 I think you mean IFR. CFR is way way higher.

Change is hard to detect when it occurs over decades and lifespans. Cops are 5x better now than 50 years ago, roughly speaking, based on civilians shot by cops, or cops shot by civilians, either way. One thing that will never go away is the desire to make things better.

Andrew Ongais Trump isn't in charge of lockdowns, that's state by state. (and city by city, to some extent).

Thank you for that update. I love Costa Rica! I worked there for a month in the 80s.

good point :) personally i like masks, not the medical ones but the more creative ones.

This virus will do nothing to lower population. However, the natural progression to wealthy societies will lower it tremendously. Invest in education for girls! That's the key.

Looks like Gates is a hero, trying to warn us, trying to protect us. I'm surprised because Windows was actually a rather predatory business model. I guess he's matured!

Accidentally. We did not have the tech to make it in a lab. However, we did have the war to breed it into a very virulent form.

@essanjay8604 personally I'd feel ok with 1m walking past someone, but not standing in line that close. Western USA small town here.

Nobody (that I know) thinks we're the best. The care is very good though, if you are insured.

@zetch972 The %s are unknown, actually. For one thing there is a category missing: no symptoms. Only random sample testing can resolve this. Does anyone have links to such a thing? I've only heard of a couple small scale studies.
1
@esecallum if WHO cares so much they should conduct some random sample testing. That's the only way to know any of those population stats.
1
Andrew Ongais Do you have a citation for that? (lol)

@yancymuu4977 Honor requires that one retract something that wasn't right. You're making a good case for Lancet honorability!

We don't actually know the IFR. It could be 1/100th of that, or that could be correct. The problem is a lack of random testing studies. We have no idea how many I's there are in the IFR.

What do you mean "comparing?" If you mean "equating" then you are correct, although the doc didn't do that here.

can you link that?

@reddoverising7634 They didn't say it was a mistake, though. Or did they? Cite source.
