Why would asymptomatic people be treated? Perhaps they were given treats, such as ice cream, because everyone deserves a treat now and then.

@madhessian8338 Oh ok, they should be "tested"! I agree 100% . The way to do it is to test a random sample of the whole population, on a weekly basis. Then we could extrapolate and get a scientific estimate of infections.

99.74% . (I support the vaccine effort, but the survival rate is actually higher than you quote, although the "very sick" rate would be of course higher)

@rocklover7437 citation? source? link? .

@rocklover7437 I don't see anything clickable. (Looking for scientific analysis in "print" not video).

@rocklover7437 ok, nice site there! BMJ... https://www.bmj.com/ searching 'Burgermeister, vaccine' ... ... Found one! . "The northern Nigerian state of Kano has agreed to resume polio vaccination early this month, reviving hopes of the World Health Organization that transmission of the disease may be permanently halted by the end of the year." . https://www.bmj.com/content/329/7457/70.5 . Goodness that's awesome! FDR is smiling. Thank you.

@AntonHu In the US the current wave is the biggest, going by the (admittedly unscientific) method of looking at the test positive numbers. .

@AntonHu For sure. My #1 complaint about this whole thing -- except the mean-ass virus being mean-- is a near total lack of proper surveys. . I counted birds for the Forest Service and UH. Why are so many governments of the world doing less to count virus cases than our tiny crew did to count cuckoos along the Gila River? . There are two ways to answer the question "How many?" 1) census. count all of them. 2) survey. count a random subset and multiply . We are doing neither. Adding up haphazard (nonrandom) data is not a valid method. . But that's all we have so we look at the pretty curves and comment until the cows come home. . Mooooooooo...

@AntonHu Yes, the #1 lesson from New Zealand is to say to the virus very early what Gandalf said to the Balrog: "You Shall Not Pass!" . Kiwis are highly aware of this wizardry, due to decades of serious work restoring native habitat and saving plants and animals. . I worked in wildlife in Hawaii; Kiwi colleagues said NZ is awesome for research and conservation work. Example: I had to get 5 permits in HI, for every 1 they had to get in NZ, for the same kind of work banding birds. . They are serious about their cute critters, and it saved them.
