interesting. also his statement about losing lock is wrong. the system does not lose lock when switching mode. this is a major feature of the integrated systems.

@ghargahrbynks7688 NYU Quantum Technology Lab did a trigonometric analysis on computer, showing the Gofast object was ~59 mph. At 12,000 feet 100 miles off of the East Coast, in January. Birds can fly at those elevations, but they don't except in migration, and they don't migrate in January. Also, birds flap, which is easily seen on radar. My problem with Thunderf00t and West's debunkings is that they don't try to debunk their alternative explanations.
2
@Husker_ agree. and he doesn't try to prove/ disprove his hypothesis. he just tosses them out there for the most part. like the "bird" for Gofast. 100 miles off Florida in January, at 12,000 feet... what species could it be? i see no sign of flapping. could it be soaring? etc.

@darklight2.1 cool purple penguins! but from what i see in the pics, the penguins are always warmer than the snowy background. when they are purple the background is black, which indicates colder
2
@darklight2.1 The pilots gave us data. It's literally not their job to investigate the explanation. There is an office for that: AARO.
2
possibly, but no known hologram can reflect radar
2
agree. also they were looking down on the object which was next to the ocean, and flew towards it, getting fairly close. this would be very helpful in estimating distance. (tic tac incident, Fravor and Wegman pilots)
2
agree. for example he doesn't try to systematically disprove the alternate explanations. we gotta list all the possible explanations and try to eliminate as many as possible. not to just say "maybe it's a bird" and then "it probably was a bird" and then people say "Mick West proved it was a bird."
2
@mj-7444 That is a better fit. But afaik they don't fly at 12k. They use the ocean waves to get their dynamic lift, and for this they have to be close to the water.
1
@darklight2.1 disagree. in some cases they had a lot of information (e.g., tic tac incident) so they could rule out all known aerial objects. the identity is purely hypothetical, but it's not an oldsmobile.
1
@MrCmon113 Yup. Underwood says it lost track and he thinks it was due to sudden movement but can't be sure as it was so fast.
1
@thunkjunk That is the No True Scotsman fallacy in action. If we want to learn new things we can't dismiss new data.
1
@thunkjunk If we only accepted data that agreed with current theory, physics could not advance.
1
@darklight2.1 The FLIR is from Underwood's plane -- he did not see the tic tac with his eyes. Fravor and Wegman's flight saw it. Four people with their own eyes. They were close enough to circle it.
1
Indeed, the Pentagon said they couldn't tell what it was. Were they are admitting that a trillion dollars in equipment is useless... ? I think not. Not a balloon, not a bird. Drone? Perhaps. Ours? Maybe.
1
@darklight2.1 Agree, ad hominin should be used only when marketing to ancient humans. On the facts, West did a superficial analysis here. It's ok for what it is, but people claim he debunked things. He offered some alternative explanations, but didn't prove any of them to be correct.
1
yup. tic tac was seen by 4 people with eyes, 2 ships with radar, 1 hawkey radar, 1 hornet radar (jammed), and hornet IR and Optical cameras.
1
Indeed, the tic tac(s) were seen by two ships and a Hawkeye radar. They sent Fravor and Wegman's Hornets to investigate and they saw it with their own eyes. Then Underwood went out and got IR and Optical. So that's four people with eyes, three types of radar, IR, and Optical camera at all available zoom ratios. Tic tac is a multi modal anomaly with intelligent behavior and abilities beyond any known craft.
1
agree. now we know that the tic-tacs interacted with at least four different types of radar -- Independence., Nimitz, Hawkey, and Tomcat. The ships could track it, the Hawkey didn't find it on its own but detected it after it was pointed out, and the Hornet got jammed.
1
By Fravor's story, the tic tac didn't try to stay hidden. In fact, it circled as he circled, until he cut across the arc and then it booked. Then it appeared at his cap point. Which is really strange, because it means it could hack the communications and understand.
1
good point. if they are balloons, it is the Pentagon saying their entire military can be fooled by balloons. I am an ornithologist, and I don't see anything that says "bird" either.
1
right, Fravor said they were a few miles. i forget his exact estimate. they were close enough to start to circle it.
1
I agree. Humans got technology via curiosity. Why stop exploring just when the tech gets really really good?
1
@darklight2.1 What high school did you go to? Don't answer. Just ask yourself if you might be wrong because memory is fallible.
1
@darklight2.1 The tic-tac episode was a lot more than a few seconds for one person. A significant portion of the fleet was involved including the flagship. I've seen three pilots give lengthy interviews. Eyes, radar, IR and Optical camera corroborate.
1
@darklight2.1 The fleet had been observing unexplained radar contacts. The Independence got something on radar and sent Fravor and Wegman's planes to investigate. What the pilots found corroborated that it was a real phenomenon not a radar glitch.
1
@CoolWorldsLab It would be good to have the radar. The recorded words of the pilots as the events were unfolding should be part of the analysis, however. At least at the next level, as a check on our hypotheses.
1
check out the O'Hare incident
1
It's something. The Tic Tac incident in particular has a wealth of data from many different modes of detection. And also the tic tac showed intelligent behavior.
1
and moving from 80,000 feet to ocean level in seconds
1
@darklight2.1 Partly true. Two ships detected it and sent the planes to investigate. The first two hornets did not get it on radar (jammed?). The third Hornet some time later said his radar was jammed. But the Hawkeye could detect it after the ships told it where to look.

Humans could eliminate other animals. We usually don't. We evolved to respect life and even to create symbiotic relationships...
