  1. Following Clausewitz, one could say the US lost Afghanistan because they had no valid political reason to be there. Russia will lose in Ukraine for the same reason. Competence in tactics is irrelevant if the strategy is developed in secret without the population debating decisions and understanding the reasons. Strategy has to come from the people, not the military alone.
