Experiment: Put out a sheet of paper on the ground, weigh it down so it doesn't blow away, and see if there is any deposition.

In my experience, a theory in science is a testable set of ideas or hypotheses, regardless of testing or acceptance. Lamarck's theory of acquired characteristics is testable, but not accepted as correct today. It's a practical definition of "theory." If we reserve it for ideas that are tested and accepted, we have to change the title of every "theory" back and forth, and we would never really know to call it a theory or not.

those layers eroded into the oceans. earth actually got "shorter" but total mass is conserved except we get what, 10 thousand tons of space dust a year?

A theory is simply a fancy hypotheses. Snowball earth is a hypothesis, but "The earth was a snowball from 1.2 bya to 2.8 bya due to a dim sun" is more of a theory. I was in the field of zoology.

God made the universe fractal. The 1/f distribution unifies uniform'ism and catastrophism

@thehowlingjoker Agree, especially because the scientists consider "doubting" it as a part of normal routine. They try to cross check with independent methods. They understand the concept of "oops" and the related concept of "oh sh*3"

Exactly. Fossils are a one in a million chance, so to speak.

Foxes eat rabbits therefore is it impossible for a person to eat a rabbit?

@gekfurian The fact that climate changed in the past shows things can change the climate... and humans are a big thing. To be clear I do not favor alarmism or demonizing dissent. Humans are not to blame in any kind of moralistic sense. So we got too smart! Blame evolution lol. We are a good species just trying to make it in the world, much like Bill Murray in any of his movies.

@gekfurian 1% a year adds up! And it has. CO2 is the highest for the last 14 million years. Much of the change can be traced back to oil using isotopes. I do not however agree with a 0 fossil fuel goal, we just need to balance.
