  2. pencil sharpener, I love it! Candidate for "odd but useful" object of the year -- and the small ones are virtually weightless. . ok here's one: pruning clippers, instead of hatchet or saw. . For camping in sonoran desert, pruning clippers are my #1 tool for clearing thorns. Clearing thorns is job #1 in some of the #1 beautiful areas -- the desert with the #1 most tree species of any desert on earth, and much of it pointed. . For that I use a pair of solid fiskars; although there are much lighter ones they are worth the weight.
