@vm1502 Millions, not billions. He wrote a couple of books. What, people not supposed to profit from their work? THAT is a socialist argument. He's not a socialist, he's a democratic socialist. Democratic government, social policies. It's what we have already.

CC's should be free. They were free in the 80s and great. I agree, University, pay for it, get a scholarship. Come to think of it, free college would make athletic scholarships worthless. The NCAA would melt. Maybe we should do that lol.
2
it's socialist to not want to give local tax money to an international corporation. ok then. I mean, it might be dumb, but socialist? more like libertarian.
2
@Aaron.Reichert OK it was the "socialists" squad who got Amazon booted. And I think that was dumb. But the desire to not subsidize huge companies, that's not just socialist, that's more a libertarian viewpoint.
2
Most Americans believe we could have everyone covered by health insurance.
2
You are correct, he should have said "No," and then the rest of his answer. Democratic socialism is not socialism. It's democracy.
2
Because you want a communist country? Thanks but no thanks. Bernie made money and the capitalists are mad. What a strange world.
2
@jt-rex6972 Well that's almost a reasonable suggestion, actually. He could open up the house for sick kids for a summer camp. Does he want to take most of our money? I mean, if M4A will save 2t a year, that's putting money into the pocket.
2
Juan is the kid at the snowball fight who puts gravel in his snowballs
2
Lol, good joke, and funny true-ish. Of course, the real situation is 1) we need drinks or we die, 2) we can't afford them, 3) drinks here cost twice other bars, and 4) if we all buy drinks together, we can save 50%. Be careful where the truth leads, it might be good for you.
2
@Mark McPherson Bernie owned a 1972 Gran Torino back in the 60s.
1
@Market Meister So we're already socialist? That's your point? Ok, that's partly true. We're a representative democracy with many "socialist or social" programs. That's why it's bizarre to hear people "afraid" of something that we already do all the time. Public roads are socialist.
1
@Market Meister like the elusive wild turkey I make my point and then strut away, ennobling the woodland with my song
1
Universal health coverage, done right, should save money and expand freedom.
1
lol, it's not 29,000 ----- $290,000 and not 52% of total, 52% marginal on dollars over 290,000
1
I think when taxes started, the poor had exactly zero money. When was that anyway? Like in the days of the OT? But yeah there are a lot of ways the poor are taxed today. My 99% Democrat-run state of Hawai'i taxes food. Speaking of the OT we're supposed to forgive all debts every 7 years.
1
Like Yang is doing with is campaign cash?
1
Bernie's ok with capital (capitol? no you're right). He made a million writing books. Did not donate it to the Society for Destruction of Cash. He was good on guns in VT, but I think they have all caved for the primary. Come to think of it, I have to see who's running for the LIbertarian party...
1
I did carpentry in Community College in the 90s. Free. I don't think we should pay for Universities, only the CCs. For the U students, we should give them an interest rate equal to the Fed's prime rate. Don't make money off them! PS If you want free college today, go to Harvard, Stanford, or the others that give 100% scholarships for all undergrads.
1
cyoungrun1 Agrees with Bernie on what, M4A? I think he has a chance because like Trump he motivates the base.
1
That's an important point, and Bernie didn't answer. But if he did he'd say "A democracy" or "representative democracy." He is a lot more democracy-minded than the DNC or most of the other Democratic candidates.
1
Trump's probably going to win, but eventually we will have universal health insurance in the US. It works better. It's like fuel injection, it's hard to work on, expensive to repair, but it saves $ compared to carburetors. There's no stopping it. Trump's even ok with the idea, but he's not going to push it.

Brilliant Quote of the Week Winner
1
but the Democratic Socialist countries are some of the best! For me the US is the best, but other democracies with strong social programs are also rated very highly.
1
uh... it does.
1
@bengali481 True, Bernie's got street cred. But can he deliver? I think so.
1
Free roads, bridges, streetlights... we are spoiled brats.
1
actually, single payer coverage would save US businesses tons of money and help them compete
1
@jammer682 I'm neutral on the whole thing. If a city wants to exempt from taxes, fine. If they don't, fine. There are good arguments on both sides.
1
not really. Socialism is a socialist government and no property rights. Democratic socialism is democracy + capitalism + social programs.
1
That is correct. He's not proposing it because he's not a socialist. The press (including Fox) is as accurate about Bernie as they were about Trump in 2016, because they are threats to the current order. Don't buy the mainstream narrative about either one of these good Americans.
1
@geeram516 right, that's why Bernie is not a socialist. He doesn't propose such a rule.
1
bernie's a pretty good capitalist, he's not talking about changing the free market except in health insurance. I think Australia's model might work better, and it allows more private insurance to compete. But he's not socialist. Democratic socialist means voting in a democracy for having some social programs.
1
@HellMuttsBillyd If that's the test for socialist, Trump is a socialist too! He's taking billions from rich companies and paying billions to farmers -- how much more communist can a president get actually? Except that's not the test for socialist or communist. That's just tarrifs and taxes, which is every form of government uses. A socialist government, communism, is when you don't get no vote, and you have no property rights. Bernie is 100% in favor of voting and property rights. So is Trump, but not all the GOP or DNC is in favor of rights. Most of them are big government grabbers, in both parties.
1
@HellMuttsBillyd No no no no, I didn't say Trump is a communist. I said he is NOT a communist. Neither is Bernie. Sheesh. Read comment before answering please.
1
@HellMuttsBillyd Trump is only communist by YOUR definition, a definition which I do not accept. Taxes are not communist. Taxing the rich is not communist. Everyone does taxes da rich because that's who has da money :) Bernie is a self-described "DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST" -- get it right, Gutfeld and everyone. That's different from socialist.
1
@555Trout lol that's classic. I vote "not me." good thing we have a bill of rights! and a free press, and fair sports.
1
not possible, check the figures
1
sure, but zero tax is probably under-taxing them
1
I've taken friends to the VA a few times and they got I guess, mixed services. They did fine with the broken ribs, but lost track of his paperwork so we waited an extra four hours, and the nurse called me a fuckface, so now I have a thing for Navy nurses. It was all in all a really good experience.
1
Nobody's actually proposing open borders.
1
@dickies5063 Yes to Bernie! Trump's good too, but Bernie's best.
1
No those are two different things. If M4A is paid for partly with a payroll tax, then employers would pay that like you say. However, they will also stop paying employee health insurance, so probably making money overall. M4A should be very good for business, unless the payroll tax is too high.
1
Are you a member of Capitalists Against Capital? I am. I want intellectual property banned, along with intellect.
1
@d.reedporter6913 lol for sure, numbed and numbered. And that is such a great point about Chyna if we said "it's not ours" then what they do is not stealing. We could reduce crime. Just. Like. That. Actually I think seriously that intellectual property will be the main asset of individuals in the future. The only asset for many. It should be democratized, let goggles pay us when we click. Clickation without representation is twittery!
