  4. That is surprising, since Cuomo rescinded the order before the case was heard. They rarely agree to hear a moot case. If ever!

  5. Peaceably assemble -- yes, like protest. Protest is exactly the same as worship in terms of protection. They can't infringe on either one. . Does that cover going to work? idk. It's not the usual interpretation.

  6. This ruling was correct according to the amendment, which is the same one that preserves separation. So it should be a win for separation.

  7.  @michaelmiller7786  Half right. The ruling can't be appealed, as there is no higher court. But it could be reversed if another case reaches the SCOTUS on the same topic. .

  8.  @jamesricker3997  "Provide for the general welfare" is a good response! . That indeed is a main function of government. . However, it is not found in the constitution in a context that allows the government to violate -- or suspend -- rights or privileges. . It is in the preamble as a sort of guiding principle, and it is in the taxation section as a limitation on the purposes for which the govt. can tax and raise revenue. They can't do it for the welfare of one person, for example.

  12.  @Michael-hh7nl  Unfortunately our Democratic and Republican governors are similarly challenged in that respect. Indiana is the sole (and still pretty lame) exception, they did one good quality survey back in May. . We need proper surveys every week to track the virus. It would be nice to know the true numbers, right? .

  13. Probably her church said they are closing for now. Don't assume it was the government. Many churches are going to remote worship for a bit, so they don't send people to heaven too soon.
