@robertmorici8605 The big difference between hunting in the 1800s and now is that now it is regulated to protect the species being hunted. . The 1800s was the era of market hunting. One crew in one boat would take thousands of ducks per day. There were giant barges loaded with animals floated down to the cities. . Bison, Turkey, Beaver, and Elk nearly went extinct but have thrived with modern regulations. . I think the best source is Aldo Leopold's Sand County Almanac. Aldo wrote the worlds' first textbook on wildlife management in the 1930s. He shot wolves for management but then realized why that didn't work. He was the Teddy Roosevelt of wildlife science.
