  3.  @georgealanthompson  That's how IVM works on parasites. It obviously has different modes of action on viruses, since viruses don't have nerve cells, although they do have feelings and we should talk nicely to them. Agree, the new drug is an antiviral. It works by inducing massive mutations in RNA. No messing around with hard to pronounce molecules! That's quite different from IVM, which inhibits formation of importin dimers and also may disrupt viral envelopes. This prevents viruses from sending regular mail but they could still email if they have the interweb.

  4.  @kx4532  Yes, and it seems like the mechanism is also totally different. Iver blocks formation of importin dimers. (Importin brings virus into a nucleus). The new drug induces RNA mutations in the virus.
