@skunk12 Regardless of universal moronity (this is youtube) I find in favor of the dissenter. The Obama victories are not a good example to illustrate partisan hypocrisy relating to the Electoral College system.

Oh please, don't read Yang's actual policies! https://www.yang2020.com/blog/ubi_faqs/pay-universal-basic-income/

@douglasbrittain7018 ... ok I see the point. I guess if people want the EC changed, they should do it when it's not a big fuss. Do it for it's own reasons, not because the other guy won.

To be fair there were a few men in Congress in 2018. I can't listen to the whole thing though her voice is too annoying.

Yang has a whole pack of proposals, pretty interesting. I wish when people made videos about UBI they'd maybe check Yang's website before guessing how he proposes to pay for it.
3
Poorly researched = didn't bother to check Yang's website: "The means to pay for the Freedom Dividend will come from 4 sources:" https://www.yang2020.com/what-is-freedom-dividend-faq/

@TheAlphapuck5280 Interesting to hear about Germany! To be clear, I'm not an advocate of UBI, but I think it needs to be discussed. As you say the consumer would get charged for the cost in terms of raised prices, inflation. I've mentioned that before and it is a big concern. You compare it to Social Security but that seems like a good thing. You don't have something like Social Security in Germany?
2
Yeah it's hard to get anything like 1.7t. Now if we went non-Yang and said, "poor adults" making less than 2x the federal poverty line... then we get about 80m people. 80m x12k = about 1.6t.

@needparalegal Liberals don't hate Asians. Where does that come from? lol. I don't think conservatives hate Mexicans either.

@Matt-mo4gu Printing extra money would devalue a currency, but how much? Our GDP is about 20t, so let's say we print 1t... that's 5% of our GDP. It's a lot, but it's not going to tank the dollar by itself. I think we spent/ printed more than that on Quantitative Easing. You're right but it's a matter of degree.
1
@Matt-mo4gu Well that's a great question! Would the benefits outweigh the cost? I have no idea, but once we can get a $ figure on cost, we need to count up the benefits in terms of better health, decreased welfare and homelessness, etc.

@shinku5463 I just want in on this thread.

If she is saying "some states aren't worth a dime" then EC proponents are saying "some people aren't worth a dime." But that's just spin. I'd defend the EC today, I think it's good. But the partisan rhetoric among today's social media users tends to mis-state positions and motives. I'm not down with that.

also he's got a great website for checking out his various Plans: https://www.yang2020.com/policies/

don't be pandantic, let the man have his rant and then go look up the facts later like the rest of us

No actually it said, OTHER THAN Chinese labor. They could import tons of chinese because they were building the railroads, and they didn't want the Act to limit the progress of the trains. I had to read it twice, I thought the same thing at first. 0:59

@michaelarchbold2129 Good point, let's deduct welfare... which is 400m a year, so that's significant but UBI would still cost 3.2 - 0.4 = 2.8t a year. Now let's go with MLK's plan, which would give $ to only poor people, and estimate that there are 80m of them. Rougly, that's about 1t a year, and then deduct say 300m from welfare that is no longer needed... so 700m a year, or just a bit more than the defense budget. This stuff has to be discussed as our economy transitions to something we've never seen before.

It'd be nice though if youtube posters maybe sometimes read or glanced at Yang's website, such as the part on how to pay for UBI... https://www.yang2020.com/blog/ubi_faqs/pay-universal-basic-income/

When was the last time a democrat won the EC and lost the total vote count? (hint... 1824 but "All four candidates in the election identified with the Democratic-Republican Party.")
1
We don't use a census to check if a person is a citizen. We check their IDs.
