  1. Nader cost Gore the election in much the same way that butterflies cause hurricanes. While it is a scientifically defensible argument, the solution is probably not to start stomping butterflies. The root causes of hurricanes, political parties, and other disasters should be addressed and not the poor butterflies. (good video btw)

  2. Ok let's take that as true. Then the argument is what, 'don't vote for people who can influence the election'? That goes against the other main argument against third parties, 'it's a wasted vote.' If Nader swung the election for Bush, perhaps the lesson is that the Democratic Party should not have frozen him out of the debates, but rather included him and by extension his supporters as part of the big tent.

  4. I think Gary's position on electoral reform centers on openness and trasparency. He wants the debates open (as you mention), and campaign contributions fully and quickly disclosed and published. Where he differs with Dr. Stein is that he doesn't want to restrict donations, just make sure they are not hidden.
