  1. ​ @camelsheit_on_the_walls446  sometimes I accident(al)ly bump the icon that changes comment order to "newest", or reversed consecutive listing, from "top", a sequence based on The Algorithm's ranking of most relevant / titillating / inflammatory first. [I'm sure YouTube/Google would describe their target for prioritized comment placement as "engaging"; which is their neutral, virtuous goal, to keep us online for maximum ad exposure.] I've also commented and scrolled through to be surprised by my own comment tucked into its humble place. That's how I learned selecting "newest" on purpose only lasted for the current video. Also, if I close a comments section and open it later, it holds my place in the list until I close the app & reopen it (, or go to another video and come back - I'm still not sure.) My own addition will also still be displayed on top in my own phone if I feel an urge to edit. AND you may be right: YouTube may be messing with us on a more detailed level than I care to contemplate. [Ask Adam Conover or Pod Save America, here on YouTube.]
