  1. 79 Datsun revved out on me when it was 7 yrs old. A parts store employee said aging cable stretches & binds up in its housing. Cheat code was to clamp (one, eventually two) lead sinkers onto the cable between end ball and contact ring under the gas pedal. Worked like a charm! When my '96 Mazda got old enough to threaten the same stunt: no more lead sinkers to buy. Alligator clip from Radio Shack (yeah, I know) worked for a while but they collapse inward and need replacing occasionally. One side of the alligator clip has more gap than the other, so put the snugger side toward the cable's end ball.
