Won't necessarily cheer you up, but if you can read / hear a scifi novel called Valis by Phillip K Dick, it's thought provoking: Channel surfing leads to serendipitous messages and aliens are beaming info into compatible brains "on beams of pink light". I'm more agnostic about UFO aliens than I am about gods. Neither seems impossible to me. (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena is supposed to allow discussion with less crazy shaming, I think, by including explainable as well as stubbornly mysterious surprises.) I think I'm more disturbed by the thought that higher tech visitors might be time travellers or dimension shifters. Jumping across space to visit other beings could be exciting in a good way. I hope.
