When I lived in Bethnal Green I played on a bomb-site with my little brother, it really wasn't so bad, and we knew no better. We had a lot of fun. What's the difference between broken bricks and a plastic football?

He talks about the houses and staircases like they should be something better but if you walk up the stairway in the Tower of London, you'll find nothing tasteful there either.

You're talking about the same thing that's virtually happening now. People sleeping in the streets because there are no cellars left to cram into.

He was talking about the 1860s but you're right, he certainly did overdo it a bit. He talks about it like it's arsehole of the world. I was born in the London hospital and lived in Bethnal Green between 1952/65 until my dad dragged us off to Oz. I actually loved living there, but I wouldn't go back now.

Remember, back then, they knew no better. They lived well as long as the children ate.

A dead husband and thirteen kids. She can have that.

I'm inclined to agree. People didn't sleep on the streets then and plastic wasn't all over the place.

My dad dragged us out of Bethnal Green in 1965 to Australia, he saw what was going to happen to the place. It was nice back then. We lived in Old Ford Road.

The greedy bastards have just got greedier. In America too. The ones with the money make more and more of it and never share it with anyone.

I quite agree and am glad I no longer live there.
