  1. I've always been skeptical of the idea that getting the nations closer together will prevent wars. I'd say the nastiest war the U.S. fought was the civil war.

  3.  @DarkHarlequin  That's fair. But not having had wars in 70 years isn't much evidence unless a parallel situation has had wars in that time, and where's the parallel situation? Eastern Europe? North America, where Canada, the U.S., and Mexico haven't fought a war in 70 years?

  4.  @DarkHarlequin  But that gets back to my original point. People think that political unions prevent wars, but civil wars indicate otherwise.
