I like the idea of subcritical reactors, but I figure those are probably more expensive than even standard nuclear power is. Still, for places where solar might not work due to latitude or weather, there may be a place for nuclear.

@MrRolnicek Perhaps, but I am a bit unclear as to what happens after the freeze plug melts and the fuel drains into the tanks below. Can the fuel be recovered and used, or do you have to write off the reactor? If the latter, then I think the extra expense of a particle accelerator might be worth it.
