This is unfortunate. I've been using "quantum" as a way to explain why it looks like the trash wasn't taken out. I told her that it was in a superposition of two states, taken out or not, and that she collapsed the wave function when she checked, so it's really her fault. The move toward realistic expectations was not something I was looking forward to.
