"Genocide" is being thrown around as carelessly as "racist" or "fascist". If those terms are supposed to be treated seriously then people should be careful with them.

A few hundred thousand years wasn't a bad run. Maybe it's best not to let us get beyond this solar system anyway.

Unless Ukraine can strike inside Russia I don't think it can force Russia to the table. It might come time for someone to make a decision. Edit: But I think that unless Ukraine joins NATO or at least some strong defensive alliance, any agreement between Ukraine and Russia isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Russia already broke their word with the Budapest Memorandum.

Maybe IDF radars had a Crowdstrike update?

I told the local auto dealer that I agreed with the propsal he didn't make to sell me a car for $1. He's being completely unreasonable about it, though.
34
That might work, if Ukraine also joins NATO. Otherwise how would we know Russia will keep that treaty better than they kept the Budapest Memorandum? They were supposed to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine after Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons.

The Mexican drug war hits hardest for me, because I expect it's mostly Americans funding the drug lords with our purchases. I know there's a reason it's happening in Mexico more than in America for a reason, but there's blame to go on both sides of the border.

@ZivineYT The math isn't difficult, nor is it relevant. If Mr. Magoo keeps shooting at Chuck Norris and the latter roundhouse-kicks all the bullets away, Chuck's still well within his rights to shoot back.
21
Bad actors will exploit this. But that's Hollywood for you. 🙃

If Venezuela invaded Guyana I think it would make a U.S. removal of the Venezuelan government legitimate, followed by a removal of sanctions. And we now have a lot of Venezuelans in the U.S.
19
@donnagant6575 Free Constantinople.
17
Leaders not lying to other leaders seems like a statistic, and something that applies poorly to any individual leader. IIRC, some things early on in the war suggest that Putin expected more popular support for Russia in Ukraine than he got.
17
On the one hand, Hamas's terms seem unrealistic. On the other hand, they probably wouldn't keep a ceasefire anyway, so it's moot.
15
Do negotiations matter when Russia does not keep to treaties it signs?
12
Russia and China both have the capability to respond with far more than we would use in a "limited strike."
11
Use Ukraine? By giving them weapons to defend themselves?
10
"Tested in ways we haven't been tested in a long time." Oh no... calculus!
10
@JAnx01 Not so. You can't find any treaty in which NATO makes that promise. People refer to speeches that could be interpreted as saying they won't do it, but there's no such treaty. In the Budapest Memorandum Russia promised to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Now we have Putin saying that Ukraine doesn't exist. And for whatever the U.S. has done, it hasn't been annexing territory. Iraq didn't become the 51st state.
9
Avoiding the war would have been simple; Ukraine could have surrendered before the invasion. Barring that, Russia has been on an irredentist path beyond just Ukraine.
9
For me the big question is: what do we do if Al Qaeda re-establishes bases and training camps there? We tried nation-building and it just doesn't work there.
9
Don't throw stones in a Waffle House, either. Those waitresses can kick ass.
8
@SirZaytoonz Collateral damage is not a war crime.
8
"We'll help until the end." (later) "Hey, you stopped helping!" "Yeah. That was the end."
7
@mohannadqa5101 I have a serious question for you. What should Israel do? Hamas is in among Gazan civilians, aren't they?
7
When one country wants another country to cease for exist, peace might be a long way off.
6
Ukraine might consider getting Crimea back a condition of victory, but it wasn't willing to fight Russia over it before. OTOH, Russia's been given a bloody nose, so Ukraine might feel more ambitious now.
6
Let them know that if they sneak into California, they'll get free stuff.
5
@TheMaratrix Look up the Budapest Memorandum
5
Maybe they just hope to soak up air defense munitions before trying air power again...?
5
It could be. All the Chinese forces in the Korean War were volunteers, and some of them brought MiGs.
5
As hard as it might be to believe, Putin is less hawkish than some of the others in the Russian government. When Putin goes it might get better, or it might get much worse.
5
@bazduggan4042 Not since the early 20th century. The US has invaded over threats or perceived threats to one degree or another, but it's lost the urge to annex territory into the U.S.
4
@codycarr4544 I've seen a lot of people claim this, but I haven't seen it substantiated.
4
@codycarr4544 The France.24 article you wanted me to look at didn't substantiate any such claim, and the NATO secretary general speech said they were ready to not deploy NATO armies east of Germany but was not a committment to do so. Aditionally, Gorbachev himself denied that there was any such NATO committment, and he was the one who the committment was supposedly made to. Gorbachev said in an interview: “The topic of ‘NATO expansion’ was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. … Another issue we brought up was discussed: making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR after German reunification. Baker’s statement was made in that context… Everything that could have been and needed to be done to solidify that political obligation was done. And fulfilled.”
4
I think that's a very important question, along with how quickly can they make more. Russia sometimes has pretty impressive equipment, but in insignificant numbers.
4
is Russia going to uphold that treaty better than they did the Budapest Memorandum?
4
Um... If an attack launched from Afghanistan doesn't mean the U.S. can invade Afghanistan, how does an attack from Gaza justify Israel's actions?
4
As long as Hamas uses civlians as shields, civilian casualties will be unavoidable.
4
@GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket does "inclusive" include discrimination?
4
@Khronogi LOL Where's the genocide?
4
What else should Israel do when fighting an enemy that uses civilians as shields?
4
How does Russia cease to exist if it loses in Ukraine?
4
NATO already had a border with Russia.
3
Scraps? A few tens of billions here, a few tens of billions there, and pretty soon you'd be talking real money. Now if we'd sat back and just flew ELINT aircraft from outside Ukraine's borders we'd be spending less and getting much the same battlefield experience, though probably not for as long.
3
My understanding is that if Poland attacks, Article 5 doesn't apply. If Poland is attacked first, Article 5 is in play, though technically it doesn't not require military assistance. But I imagine it would in fact.
3
@TheMantis1968 Imagine in WW2 if we'd just arrested Hitler. By your logic we could have saved a lot of trouble, right?
3
@Thor67af That's very brave of you. 🤣
3
One objection: the United States didn't promise to defend Ukraine, except to object to an invasion in the U.N. The United States agreed to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine, i.e. not to invade it, and the U.S. didn't invade it.
3
Free Constantinople!
3
@pessimisticbengali265 Why? Just because Hamas enjoys them doesn't mean Israel does.
