  1. Is Russia winning? If their casualties are not much higher than Ukraine's, I'd say so, since Russia is advancing. But I think his speculation on Putin's motives is iffy. Putin's justification wasn't just NATO expansion, it was that Ukraine wasn't a real country. What Putin says and what Putin believes may be unrelated.
