@asn4556 How do the Taiwanese feel about that? Maybe they should ask the peopple of Hong Kong about how well the PRC honors committments.

@asn4556 Wrong, in multiple ways. First, your evidence that the UK wouldn't allow Scotland to leave is just your opinion, and therefore worthless as evidence. Second, Taiwan has never been part of the People's Republic of China and is not now.

@asn4556 You provide no evidence for what you say you and I both know. Sorry, but arrogance is not evidence. And yes, Taiwan is the remainder of the RPC. But that doesn't change the fact that the PRC has never ruled Taiwan. And your insistence that it must end in the military defeat of one by the other is also unsubstantiated; if the PRC's authoritarian regime is overthrown and replaced by something democratic, Taiwan might consider signing on. Since the PRC does not hold to treaties, as evidenced by the Hainan Island incident, their artificial islands, and their lies to the world about how they were going to hold Hong Kong, that would probably be the only peaceful resolution.

@asn4556 You claim that Scotland wouldn't allow Scotland to leave, but the situation isn't analogous to Taiwan because it was never part of the PRC. It's simple.

There are people (many people) who don't want Russia to profit in any way from this invasion, because it would encourage further aggression by Russia or aggression by PRC. I've also heard that Ukraine without the Russian-captured areas will be greatly impoverished, though I can't attest to it. And Russia doesn't look to be suffering all that much ecomically. I see several reasons for this war to grind on for a long time, and few reasons to expect it to end in a way meeting Ukraine's desired outcome.
