They cared more about covering the ass of the British running back to their ships.

The true question is: Why didn't UK fight at all?

Nobby Nobbs The British had nothing to learn about a war of movement: remember how fast they moved their ass to Dunkirk to evacuate.

@nathansellars3757 Maybe they could've considered General Weygand's plan for a counterattack instead of retreating without order, without fighting and without prior notice.

@voiceofreason2674 If your ancestor could foresee the future, he should've played lotto.

@garyjordan4735 You are so funny. In 1940, the British troops left their positions without fighting, without permission and without informing the French commandment. The French covered their asses until the beaches of Dunkirk for them to evacuate without too much damage. In 1942, same again: The French covered the rout of the British by retaining by themselves both German and Italian armies at Bir Hakeim. Without Bir Hakeim, no victory at Mers el Kebir. In 1943, the French were the first ones in the Tunisia campaign with the rest of their North African army that the Americans had not destroyed while the British were still wondering how to keep their tea lukewarm. In 1944, the French refused to cede ground to the Germans during the Ardennes offensive when the British and Americans were OK to let them retake the newly liberated territories.
