@taradevine6026 Don’t tell me that I’m not sincere. These are sincere and legitimate questions. I do see both good and bad things happen in the world. And I can point to natural causes for all of them. What I can’t point to, and apparently neither can you, is any demonstration of any gods. Even if some people accept and believe in some other supernatural entity, that doesn’t make their claims any more true. And let’s be honest...you didn’t do research. What you did was confirm your own bias, or so it seems. Otherwise, your argument is that some other people believe differently than you...and some bad things happen. Therefore a god exists. It doesn’t follow. I’m sincerely asking for sake of conversation.

I mean...if this is a message from some all powerful god, I’m seriously underwhelmed.
5
@taradevine6026 So now, you’ve just thrown in a conspiracy theory on top of your god claims. Semi-agnostic? Maybe you know what that word even means. But to re-word your argument....you see bad things happen....so god exists? Is seeing bad things happening evidence that any god exists?
5
@GolfnMoreclips Faith means reaching a conclusion without supporting evidence. And appearance of design doesn’t necessarily mean design. You’d still have to demonstrate a designer. The intelligent design argument isn’t a demonstration of a designer. But I don’t think it’s up to either of us to guess why she believes. Only she can convey that.
5
@taradevine6026 That is true. I tend not to accept claims as true when those claims cannot be demonstrated to be true. Lots of people believe things that aren’t true.

Prove it.

@keltecdan I’m interested in the truth. I want to hold as many true beliefs as possible, and as few false beliefs as possible. I don’t want to accept this as “God’s word” unless it is true. My question is about how you know whether or not it’s true. If there isn’t good reason to accept it as true.....then I shouldn’t... Should I?
2
@Lepus J Also, I know better what good is than you do, if you worship a god that drowns babies and toddlers, and a god that makes slavery permissible by law. But I’m more interested in truth than your subjective opinion of what is good. Believing things without warrant isn’t good.
2
@Lepus J Please, be specific. What is it you’re claiming is right in front of my face? I can’t specifically say what good reason I need, but just telling me so,etching is in front of my face isn’t going to be convincing. So, far...it seems you may be convinced....but without any good reason to actually be convinced.
2
@Lepus J So, what you’re saying is that you don’t have any good reason to hold the beliefs you do, but you feel good attacking me with baseless assertions? You can’t justify your claims, and you’re somehow equipped to know better than I do what I really believe? I hope you take the time to consider how absurd each and every one of your claims are.
2
@Lepus J And still, you offer no evidence to support any of your claims. Which means you must know I am not wrong.
2
@taradevine6026 We’re you always a believer too? Or did you become convinced? What convinced you?
2
@kdr2013 Yes, I have read the Bible myself multiple times. Not only that, but I have attended Seminary. I understand you’re convinced, and you believe. I simply don’t think that the Bible warrants belief. The Bible itself is not an authority in any way. It’s really just a book of claims. Claims that would need to be substantiated, and can’t be. So when it comes to supernatural claims, those are the least credible and require better evidence. And there simply isn’t evidence to support the claims. Consider whether or not we know who the authors of the gospels are. The fact is, we don’t.
2
@kdr2013 I’m glad your marriage has improved. It sounds like the work you were putting into it is helping. If the Holy Spirit exists, and has decided not to reveal itself to me, there is nothing else I can do. Same for any gods that may exist. There are people in other religions, that also pray to other gods, and feel their prayers were answered. And the numbers for COVID spiked immediately after the national day of prayer. You’re convinced prayers are answered, but scientifically we know prayers work at about the same rate as chance.

Your god left you scraps of appear in a cave. You should have everything you need.

@keltecdan How do you know?
1
@Lepus J If it’s good it’s true? That is your method for determine truth? Seems unreliable. As of this morning, you have ten million dollars in your bank account to do charitable acts with. This would be good....right?
1
@keltecdan How do you know what any god or gods did or do? How do you know whether the claim you made about god only revealing himself to some, while perhaps hiding himself from others? And to be more specific than how you know, but how would anyone else be able to confirm this? Is there a method, besides just accepting the claim at face value....is the a method you used to determine the truth to your claim?
1
@Lepus J Suggesting I am greedy or attempting to insult me reveals your character. I recognize people can and do experience the emotion of love. This isn’t a demonstration that any gods exist. Can you do any better? Preferably without your attempts to be insulting?
1
@Lepus J I’m sorry that you think having a civil conversation isn’t good. I’m sorry you’re conflating a simple thought experiment with who I am as a person, then decide to judge me based on your mistake. I don’t need your advice on what I need to dump. Especially when I can demonstrate my model of morality is superior to Christian doctrine. Your being rude to me isn’t evidence for a god either. This just further demonstrates your inability to offer any warrant for accepting claims for your god. If you can’t offer a good reason, what reason convinces you?
1
@Lepus J Are you suggesting you know better what goes on in my mind better than I do? This is a great example do you believing things that aren’t true. I’d ask for evidence, but you prefer make believe, apparently. Way to represent how believers have conversations.
1
@Volleyball_Chess_and_Geoguessr So you used an unreliable method to come up with an incorrect conclusion.
1
@jonathan. How can you demonstrate the truth of your claim? Is there any reason to accept what you are saying actually comports with reality? There are other religions with similar claims that offer the same lack of evidence, and require belief without evidence as well. How would an outsider to these faiths/religions be able to determine if any were true?

@bodhi6769 There are no scientific theories on creation. Not even a good hypothesis. Just myths and claims, really. Right?
1
@kdr2013 I’m curious, what personal experiences have you experienced that warrants conclusion that any gods exist? Can those experiences be explained by natural events? The answer is yes. It always is, right?
1
@kdr2013 Have you tried praying for Covid to go away? I know others have.
