@im4freedom444 You’ve never read your Bible? Exodus 21. Owning people as property, and beating them is permissible by Law of the Biblical God. This isn’t my interpretation, this is doctrine. You can read it for yourself. Of course, apologetics may say this was indentured servitude, however that isn’t the case here. These laws applied differently to Hebrew men, versus Hebrew women, versus non-Hebrews. Hebrew males in indentured servitude were released after six years. Women were not. And if women had children, they were slaves for life. Non-Hebrews were kept for life as well, and even passed down as inheritance, since these people were considered property. When you’re done with Exodus, also read Leviticus.

@slomi1972 I don’t think you’d recognize truth if it shat on your head. I doubt you have a reliable epistemology. When the GOP creates barriers on the pretense of illegal voting, when said illegal voting is imaginary, then they’re just creating barriers. The GOP is losing their grip on power, and are desperately trying to.prevent that. This is why the DOJ is fighting back. The bigger picture is that the GOP and anyone that supports the GOP is awful. Your dear leader who lost a clean election is still trying to erode democracy. The same clown wanted to shoot peaceful protestors. Yes, slightly off topic from these voting restrictions, but you did say look at the bigger picture. If your world view was based on reality, you’d know better.

@im4freedom444 Oh, and since you mentioned freedom…. Please consider our First Amendment allows us religious freedom. The First Commandment opposes religious freedom, and demands only the biblical god be worshipped. Which would you say supports the notion of freedom better?

@im4freedom444 1. I never claimed it was mandatory to own slaves. However the text indicates it was lawful, according to god’s laws, to own another person as property, best them and pass them down to one’s kids as an inheritance. Are you disputing whether or not this is doctrine? Did you read it for yourself? Or did you just copy and paste for an apologetic’s page? It seems I am better read and better informed than you. I’m also demonstrably more moral without religion than people who try to justify something as immoral as owning and beating other people.

@im4freedom444 2. The fact that slavery was common at the time is irrelevant. Eating shellfish was forbidden. Coveting another person’s property was forbidden. You’re just acknowledging that your god allowed slavery, and never commanded against it. Your god also commanded the slaughter of neighboring villages when the men, boys, and women were killed, but the virgin girls were taken as slaves. This was commended.

@im4freedom444 3. Digging deeper. Did you read Leviticus? 4. Exodus is indeed Old Testament. So was the idea of original sin. So are the Ten Commandments. But also, the New Testament includes direction: Slaves, obey your earthly masters, with all fear. Not only the kind masters, but the cruel ones as well. Show me where in the NT the laws for slavery are ever overturned. You won’t find it.

@im4freedom444 5. It isn’t interpretation. It is clearly spelled out as law. 6. I’m not superstitious, and don’t need magic blessing from your imaginary god, the god of slavery. I’m demonstrably more moral than the doctrine, and definitely more moral than those that defend such doctrine. 7. I hope you find your way to clean your moral compass. You obviously want to defend degrading things like slavery, and are so upside down morally that you think calling it out slavery being immoral is a bigger problem than slavery itself. If you can’t demonstrate reasonable, logical, ethical, or moral arguments….you should be directing anyone to the internet to find them. I’m not the one degrading Christianity. I’m pointing out exactly what the doctrine says. The doctrine itself is degrading.

@slomi1972 I never made such an assertion. Why straw man? Is it because you can’t follow? Creating unnecessary barriers to resolve a problem that doesn’t exist is the GOP’s way of trying to stay in power when most people would vote them out. Put down the koolaid and walk away.
