No holy book has ever over turned science, right? I never claimed anyone died and left me in charge. But you’re not bothering to answer why you worship the god of slavery either.

I’m asking to demonstrate that it isn’t useful in determining whether a belief is true, but it does raise confidence that the belief is true….even when it isn’t true. For example, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity all require faith, yet they all disagree. They can’t all be right, they can all be wrong. So, faith in each case for believers in different traditions, value faith similarly as you. Yet, we can’t use faith to determine whether any is actually true. Would you agree?

If nothing you can say would convince me, why are you so convinced? I’ve already told you I do not worship. Why would you again suggest I do? Are you angry with me for not believing as you do? Even though your god hasn’t allowed me to? I’m not sure why you think my existence means nothing. It certainly does to me. It does to me family. Something isn’t beautiful or valuable because it lasts. It becomes more valuable because it doesn’t. Now, you’ve been needlessly rude. Please consider the questions I pose, maybe after you feel less defensive.

  17.  @mikehenson819  Sorry, Mike. I understand you believe those things. But you believe without warrant. Yes, we will all die one day. That is why the current life we have has value. And should not be wasted worshipping immoral and imaginary beings. You reject my direct accusation of your god being the god of slavery. But Exodus lays out the Laws of God. And Exodus 21 made it lawful to own people as property. And lawful to beat the slaves, so long as they didn’t die. Slaves could be purchased from the Heathen around them, and female slaves could be taken after the rest of her family was slaughtered. Sure, there were rules to release Hebrew males after six years. But not Heathens. Or females. Or the children of the females. So, yes. I do wonder why this is overlooked by people that still believe. Nowhere are these rules negated or overturned. Even the NT suggests slaves obey their earthly masters with all fear. Not only the kind, but the cruel. This suffering is unjust, but lawful?

You claim to reject the Bible, but whatever you think you know about Jesus could only come from the Bible. Which is really just hearsay. Faith, is increasing confidence in a belief, regardless of whether or not the belief is true. Faith is having insufficient reason to believe, but believing just the same. And please, answer this honestly…. What belief cannot be justified by faith? Hinduism, Judaism, Islam….all depend on faith. From the outside, there is not reason to accept them. Right?

I would agree that the gospels are of unknown authors, and have been copied and edited, and copied and edited, and books were arranged and included or rejected based on a narrative. You’d be hard pressed to accept supernatural claims based on such hearsay. Unless you’re already indoctrinated.

The only thing you could,possibly know about Jesus comes from anonymous sources. There are no contemporary writings about Jesus outside of the Bible. You’re accepting claims with the level of evidence that you wouldn’t accept from any other religion. Do you know who Paulogia is?

You say you don’t imagine I would be interested in finding out, but I did attend Seminary…and, like I said.. If you had some way to convince me, I’d be convinced. If god himself told you what would convince me, could god be wrong?

I don’t know what would convince me a god exists. Certainly not hearsay, which is all you have. Perhaps if you prayed to Jesus that all amputees would regrow a limb, it would be convincing. But again, if a God exists, this God would know. And if you think,your good is all powerful, and can answer your prayers, why not ask him. I already have asked, for years and years, and I can’t get an answer. So, please….ask him. Ask him what would convince me, and let me know. If you can tell me, then we will both be convinced.

As for your claims about healing by god, might I recommend you look up,a song by Tim Minchin, called Thank You God. It’s about a guy named Same, whose mother had cataracts that were healed by a miracle.

But generally speaking, no…nobody has to disprove the god you claim exists, but can’t demonstrate exists. Unless of course, you want to accept Big Foot and Unicorns exists, was well as Thor and Odin….when YOU can’t prove they don’t exist.   50.  @ChristOurKing  I didn’t say it was wishful thinking. According to doctrine faith is evidence of things unseen, which is a contradiction of what evidence is. What is your definition of faith? And can you suggest any set of beliefs that faith cannot be applied to? Certainly, you must be able to admit that faith doesn’t have a mechanism for determining whether or not a belief is true. Sure, it will serve to increase confidence in a belief, but that goes regardless of whether the belief is true.
