  1.  @JD-gw3fp  Science happens to be our most reliable method for measuring reality. But science isn’t a doctrine, doesn’t offer the false promise of eternal life. Nobody claims politicians will fix all the problems, but your god belief doesn’t fix any problems.

  2.  @JD-gw3fp  Testimony is useless, unless you think the testimony of Hindus and Muslims hold value. They do demonstrate that people can be convinced far beyond warrant. And what value is faith? If faith can be used to justify Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, White Supremacy, and literally any other position…. All,it does is serve to bolster beliefs. It doesn’t have a mechanism to differentiate false beliefs from true beliefs. It will bolster false beliefs far beyond reason.

  4.  @JD-gw3fp  For me, it is Important to hold as many true beliefs and as few false ones as possible. Faith, according to doctrine, is allowing yourself to believe without evidence. It also allows you to continue to believe despite evidence to the contrary. What do you follow to rule everything? That’s a silly question. We all rely on our senses, but some of us use reliable methods. Faith, as I have demonstrated, isn’t a reliable method. Now, I know you will take all this as a personal attack, though it isn’t meant that way. Take time to consider the arguments. Peace and reason.

  5.  @JD-gw3fp  Science never claims to have settled things. But faith and religion does, when it hasn’t. Science is the most reliable method we have for measuring reality. And we know faith can be used to justify beliefs that are incorrect, and it only requires believing. Science does the work. No doubt intelligent people have faith. They’re just not using science to achieve that faith, by definition. Intelligent people can be wrong. Nobody is saying they’re not intelligent, but we are saying they’re wrong in a lot of causes, or at least without warrant for beliefs they hold such high confidence in. You’re using two different standards when saying science hasn’t settled everything, but religion gets a pass where you can believe literally anything.

We are indeed limited by laws, but you’re making an equivocation fallacy by trying to compare the two. But even if we were, it wouldn’t be right, as it would still go against well being and free will….wouldn’t it?

  8.  @petepistol7179  Nowhere in scripture does it indicate Jesus was ever held as a slave. A sacrifice, sure. Not a slave. Be honest. But remember, this sacrifice can be described as follows: A god who create the rules, created mankind as sinful by his own doing. Then created himself as a sacrifice to himself, in order to convince himself to forgive people for being as he created them to be. Where he could have just created them differently or modified his own rules. Right? And by the way, a god creating himself as human to suffer for two days and still be a god isn’t a sacrifice. It’s a bad weekend.

This is a different argument entirely. Your god made it lawful to own other people as property. To own and best slaves. Not just indentured servants either. To own people as property for life.

Slavery is immoral and your god made it permissible by law. The Bible didn’t civilize slavery. It endorsed it. Slaves, obey your earthly masters with all fear. Not only the kind, but the cruel. It allowed for the beating of slaves too. It endorsed slaughtering tribes…the men, boys, and women…but allowed for keeping the virgin girls as slaves. And this is what you worship and promote.

I also informed you that I have attended Seminary, and have read the Bible more than once. You, on the other hand, made an unsubstantiated claim that Jesus was a slave. Not even your Bible makes such a claim. I addressed that claim as well. The difference between us is that I am honest.

Even with the Abrahamic religions, there are millions who believe in Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Mormonism, and Jehovah’s Witness. They can’t all,be right, but they can all be wrong. And none can demonstrate their beliefs are correct. So who is asleep and afraid past their own deceptions? The one who is skeptical and waits for evidence, or the one who is convinced based on indoctrination and without evidence?

Faith only reinforces beliefs,,whether they are true or not. Faith has no mechanism to determine whether the belief is true. But it will bolster beliefs even when they are false. Please acknowledge and address this point.

If you’re under the impression that it is lacking, it is strictly due to you lack of awareness and understanding. The science that supports evolution is in no way based on assumption or imagination, but facts. DNA does support the scientific theory of evolution. Your question about fossils is in no way relevant. Yes, DNA supports the theory of evolution. Man “arriving the way it did”, through evolution, is demonstrable with DNA. But don’t make the mistake of confusing abiogenesis with evolution. Does the creation story, the inverse, earth and people being created in six days conflict with what science has measured about the age of the universe, the process of evolution? If evolution is correct, and there was no garden of eden, then original sin doesn’t add up and the need for redemption isn’t valid. Salvation doesn’t exactly fit either. Suggesting others don’t follow Christ is sort of the “no true Scotsman” fallacy. I’ve never seen a believer follow the direction to sell all their belongings to follow Christ. No offense meant. I’m not attacking you, just questioning the position. Peace and reason.

If you don’t find a conflict between religious claims and how science operates, that is strictly due to your own incredulity. Religious doctrines require believing without evidence, calling faith in as a substitute for evidence, as if it were virtuous. Maybe you should learn what science is. Oh, and I’m certain the Laws of God laid out I’m Exodus we’re not meant as parable. Such as your God’s law permitting owning other people as property, and lawfully being able to beat these slaves. And speaking of evidence, what evidence is there that supports the claim that any gods actually exist? It is a conflict of science to assert something exists when you cannot demonstrate that to be the case. It fails the null hypothesis.

Faith allows you to believe claims, and will even bolster confidence in claims, regardless of whether or not they are true. You only have to point to Judaism, Islam, Mormonism, and Christianity to demonstrate that, even based on the same Abrahamic god myths, people use faith to justify radically different views. They can’t all be right, but they can all be wrong. And none can demonstrate truth to their claims.
