@arfermo853 It’s a subjective standard of well being versus suffering and an infringement of free will. Remember though, your belief in a god is completely subjective, just as any god’s opinion on morality is subjective. Since you didn’t ask what standard I use for whether or not it is just, should I assume you don’t have a canned response, or is this an acknowledgment that you understand it isn’t just? How could any temporal crime be punishable with eternal torment and be considered just? This is what your religion has washed into your brain…a skewed perception of self worth, morality, and justice.

@arfermo853 You’re dodging my questions, which means you’re not interested in honest discourse. Punishment…here is one definition: the infliction or imposition of a penalty as retribution for an offense. Not relevant to whether a god is just or moral. To suggest a creator created anyone out of love is an unsubstantiated claim. You can’t demonstrate a creator exists, or that a creator created me. You couldn’t demonstrate it was out of love. You certainly can’t demonstrate free will is a result of a creator. So, let’s see if you can explain the difference between asserted properties and demonstrable properties. Can you do so? You’re suggesting eternal torment is based on love. This just demonstrates that your sense of morality, which is also subjective, is inferior to mine as it promotes pointless suffering over well being. Which is awful. Just awful. Stop lying to yourself, and others. Be honest.

@ChrisSmith-xh9wb Sin is an imagined concept. You’re making assertions you could never substantiate. And yes, it could never be just or immoral to punish someone eternally, especially for simply not being convinced. If a god existed, and wanted to convince people it existed, this god would be able to do so. Also, a magical blood ritual sacrifice being required to forgive sins is also immoral. Here is my challenge to you, though you won’t accept it. Ask your god what would convince me it exists, then let me know what it tells you. If your god exists and answers, I will be convinced. If it doesn’t…then either it doesn’t exist, or doesn’t want me to be convinced. Close the loop.

@arfermo853 You’re dodging of you don’t make an honest attempt,to address relevant questions. Yes, beliefs in gods are subjective. Yes, some believers have a subjective opinion of what their god’s punishment is. Some suggest eternal torment, which is common. Others suggest annihilation. What do you believe happens, and why would you believe it? Do you care whether or not your beliefs are true? If you’re not here for an honest intellectual dialog, what is your objective? Are you here to play circus?

I also see your beliefs are preventing you from going back to check the math, so to speak. Yes, you believe in a creator god, but you do so without warrant. How would you demonstrate such a god exists or created anything? And your moral compass is demonstrably inferior. Yet, your beliefs are restricting your ability to address this. @arfermo853 No, that isn’t what I am saying. I’m not saying if you cannot understand god to,your satisfaction he is irrelevant. I, saying there isn’t reason to conclude a good exists to begin with, and unless the claims can be demonstrated to comport with reality, then accepting those claims as true is irrational. Like you said, there is a day when you will stand before him with this argument…etc. Yet, there is no reason to conclude this claim is true. You can’t demonstrate it to be true. It’s just what you were taught. There is a difference between assertions and demonstrations, right? I can claim I have a pet unicorn, or I can show you I have a pet unicorn. Only one of these should be convincing to you.

You accept an unjust and immoral position regarding eternal torment. Your religion has skewed your moral compass. I wonder if you know how many people in the Bible made a first hand claim to witnessing a resurrected Jesus?

@ChrisSmith-xh9wb Yes, you really have exactly zero. Paul does make a first hand claim, but his claim refers to a vision. Scribes writing down second or third hand claims aren’t first hand claims. You don’t know who the authors were, and you don’t have original manuscripts. You don’t have any record outside of the gospels, which were written by zealots, for zealots. It isn’t a historical account. Your journey included chasing confirmation bias. You managed to convince yourself for poor reasons. Supernatural claims can’t be demonstrated to be true. Yet, you believe the specific ones you were taught to believe, despite having any real reason to accept them. The “final destination” is circular, at best. When a Hindu, Muslim, or Mormon make similar claims about their journey and their destination, but also have no evidence which supports the claims.. That makes your equally ridiculous. Sorry, I know you’re convinced and that seems harsh.

If you grew up in a Muslim culture or Mormon culture, that is likely where you would have landed. 95% of believers land on the religion of their parents. What matters is whether your beliefs are demonstrably true, or just baseless assertions.

@novinceinhosic3531 If a God sets the parameters for going to Hell, which includes being convinced he exists, but this God can’t be bothered to demonstrate his own existence and remains hidden, then it isn’t a matter of free will. Unless you’re suggesting I pretend to be convinced, which your God should be able to recognize it isn’t sincere. And yes, I can absolutely be smarter than someone who is convinced of supernatural claims based on nothing more than hearsay. You lack not only a moral compass, but also any sense of reason or logic.

@presupping4eva Your subjective opinion is that “He is the ultimate basis and origin”. Something being objective is true regardless what any mind, divine or otherwise, subjectively believes about it. If you believe you deserve eternal torment, then this has nothing to do with wages of sin. You clearly don’t believe you are deserving of eternal torment either. @presupping4eva Here is what we have evidence of… Quantum fields, then physics, then chemistry, then biology, then physical brains, the consciousness, then reason and logic. You’re arguing, against all evidence, and through special pleading…that consciousness, reason and logic existed before hand. But of course, you admit this is an irrational position…but adhere to it for no good reason. Meanwhile, despite being wrong…you believe you deserve to be treated differently than those who disagree with you. And those that disagree with you deserve torment.

@presupping4eva The punishment doesn’t fit the crime. A temporal crime cannot be deserving of eternal torment. If you don’t understand what unjust is, you don’t have a basis to question or dispute it. What you’re arguing for is “might makes right”. If someone has more power than you, they are right regardless of anything else. This doesn’t resolve your issue with objective standards. But you’re also unable to demonstrate your imaginary friend even exists. Is drowning babies wrong? Remember, I just think you’re wrong. I don’t think you deserve torment for being wrong. Especially eternal torment. And this makes my subjective moral position superior to your subjective moral position.

How could that be a crime worthy of any punishment, let alone the most extreme punishment? Especially is this being is supposed to be “all loving” or “merciful”. But even the minimum, being just. @ChrisSmith-xh9wb I don’t have an impulse to reject the concept or authority of God. So what you’re saying is false, it’s a lie. I simply have critical thinking skills sharp enough to not be convinced by mere assertions of the existence of a magical being. And I have a moral compass strong enough to reject what is unjust. My atheist views aren’t a choice. And there is no good reason to accept hearsay that anyone rose from the dead. Just as any time you hold a pencil out and release it, you’re convinced it will not fall any direction besides down, we can be sure nobody rose from the dead. I’m not asking that God force a different choice on me. I’m asking by my free will if your God exists, it would knows what would convince me. Hearsay from zealots who lives thousands of years ago should not be convincing to either of us. So you won’t even bother asking. Even if it would convince me and potentially save my soul. Because you already know for a fact no God could possibly answer. And again I will ask…how many people in the Bible made a first hand claim to witnessing a resurrected Jesus? The answer may surprise you.

You can’t demonstrate any truth to,your claims, and are special pleading both the existence of, and any properties associated with your god.
