@andersonmcbride29 Claiming things are real isn’t evidence those events occurred in reality. We know based on evidence that the Genesis creation story is myth, not factual. Just because a book was written two thousand years ago has no relevance as to whether what was written is true. Remember, the Bible is the claim, not the evidence. When you say miracles, is it fair to say you mean supernatural events? Why would you be convinced there is any truth behind those? Is it strictly because it comes from a book you were taught to believe in? Yet, you dismiss the Quran and the Book of Mormon? You dismiss Hinduism?

@andersonmcbride29 What do you mean how did energy get here? Energy cannot be created or destroyed, as far as we know. Our understanding of the Big Bang suggests everything within the universe resulted from a singularity. We cannot investigate what conditions were like prior to the Big Bang. Not having an answer doesn’t mean the answer is a god. That would be a god of the gaps argument. None of this line of questioning is relevant to whether there is evidence for the existence of a god.

@andersonmcbride29 Why would you assume a higher power exists, or created anything though? It isn’t relevant because your “higher power” is only an assertion, and you can’t demonstrate it exists. The only honest answer to what caused the Big Bang, or what conditions were prior to the Big Bang is “we don’t know”. As far as we know, it could have been the result of a quantum field. See, we have evidence that quantum fields exist, but not gods. What we don’t have evidence of is some form of a consciousness creating universes. We don’t even have evidence of consciousness resulting from anything other than a physical brain. I realize you’re convinced a god exists, and created things….but why? How did you become convinced of this? Think it through and be honest. How did you come to that conclusion?

@andersonmcbride29 You don’t seem to understand. If we don’t have an answer, that doesn’t mean “god did it”. And since you can’t even demonstrate a god exists, you can’t use god as a possible cause. We do know quantum fields exist, so it is more probable the Big Bang expanded as a result of a quantum fluctuation. Now, I’m not saying this is what necessarily happened. And I’m not saying we have evidence that quantum fluctuation was the cause. Only that it’s a better hypothesis. Your argument though is circular. It seems you’re saying a god must exist because the universe came into existence, and the reason the universe came into existence was a god. Again, suggesting a god was the cause isn’t the default. The default, until was know, is that we don’t know. So, what evidence do,you actually have for the existence of a god now?

@andersonmcbride29 And no, I’m not using the term “nothing”. Nobody is saying the universe came from “nothing” except for believers. If energy cannot be created or destroyed, then perhaps energy has always existed. We don’t have any examples of whatever “nothing” is, and we have no reason to conclude there was ever a state of nothingness.

@andersonmcbride29 You’re asking legitimate questions, for sure. Let’s compare the two hypothesis’. H1: God always existed, but we have no evidence for god. H2: Energy has always existed, and we have evidence for energy existing. Now consider…if we see hoof prints in the snow. H1: these were created by a unicorn, which we have no evidence unicorns exist. H2: these were created by a horse, which we have evidence horses exist. In both cases, which is the more likely hypothesis?

@andersonmcbride29 Science happens to be our most reliable method for measuring reality. But you’re right, I don’t rely on faith. Good observation. But consider this… what belief can’t be justified by faith? People of different religions with different gods can use faith. Faith can bolster one’s confidence in any belief. The problem is, faith doesn’t have a mechanism to determine whether or not the belief is true, or whether or not the belief deserves any level of confidence. So, faith can bolster confidence in false beliefs…and that’s the problem. As for miracles… The same applies. If you can’t demonstrate a god exists, can miracles exist? Calling something a miracle is just suggesting a god was responsible for whatever happened. And those assertions are never demonstrated to be the result of any god or gods.
